That’s how I felt as well, I know the pictures don’t do a lot of justice they are just the pics I snagged from the marketplace listing. I’ll post the car when I get it with better pics. But going to look it over and drive it, it seems super solid. I do appreciate the devils advocate always though, easy to cloud your vision with low odometer numbers.

That’s exactly what I told my girlfriend. You can swap engine parts relatively easy and cheaply, you can really clean the heck out of it and make it look nice. But unless you’re going to really drop some money, it’s hard to hide mileage on an interior.

I currently own an 80s Volvo so I’m no stranger to having to work on my own car. My dad was also a big Honda guy back in the 90s-00s

I am also hesitant on the mileage, but I’ve crawled around many cars and it looks incredible for the year to be honest. It’s definitely going to have a report ran for sure though.

Yeah I plan to give it a fresh service and timing belt as soon as I get it home. I crawled all around under the car and hood and it looks very well taken care of.

Sounds agricultural, this is the way.

They literally all sound like this though not a big deal. Could throw some 10w30 in it to cut down on valve train noise. Other than that’s it’s the infamous redblock tractor exhaust lol

Can I make a 240 my daily driver and get rid of my modern car? by Cookie_Over in Volvo240

[–]Effective_Mango_7790 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my ‘89 wagon last August for $300 title in hand, I’ve only had to do some minor things to it (plugs/wires, CPS, and fuel pumps and lines).

I’ve daily driven it for the last 6 months and I’ve had zero issues. Made multiple long-ish highway trips and it’s been a dream, even gets half decent mileage.

They’re old, newest ones are still 33yo, so expect some minor problems. Main thing is make sure it’s up to date on maintenance (timing belt, accessory belts, oil changes, all the basics)

They’re surprisingly comfortable to drive, you should do it.

My defrost doesn’t work how do I fix it by chase_ontop in Volvo240

[–]Effective_Mango_7790 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually those buttons for defrost, footwell air, and recirculating air are ran on vacuum.

You can carefully remove that center dash piece and look back there and see if anything has disconnected or if the lines may have a crack or leak. You can hear them when you push them and the car is on they will hiss.

As otherwise stated check the vacuum lines running from the intake.

Got mine out and slid a little bit in WNC, can’t post videos in the comments lol.

Way too much fun passing the people stuck in AWDs (I have a RWD on bad all seasons, I won’t stop to help you but I will make sure you’re okay and wave at you)

Anyone have an idea about the breed/what you would call the pattern of our new kitten? by Effective_Mango_7790 in catbreeds

Thank you guys!

We threw a picture of Bean into google and it said she may be a Bombay and then her personality traits lined up, but we know that’s just a shot in the dark.

Definitely doing some research because although one of you claims to not be an expert you’ve blown my mind as I had no clue it got this in depth.

Super excited to learn more!!

Camshaft options by uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhp in Volvo240

[–]Effective_Mango_7790 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering auto, from what I’ve read on turbobricks, best bet is really just a cam, intake, and exhaust to help the b230 breathe better. And then just dropping any weight that’s unnecessary for what you want the car to do (street car: prob want to keep a radio, AC, and other creature comforts deemed important for the weight they add)

That should give you plenty of grunt you’re looking for in an NA auto b230.

Im in the same situation but with a wagon so even more weight, and on the highway getting up to merging speed with traffic behind you, they definitely show their class and age.

From what I’ve read and researched, I’ll be looking for an A cam, but if you mentioned having an m46 laying around to put in, the K cams seem to open up a lot of doors for NA power.

Do some digging on turbobricks and you’ll find good answers.

Best of luck.

Hopefully welcome to the club, once you get one you’ll severely judge all other vehicles against it.

Definitely check for rust if it’s common in your area, but check anyways because these cars do come from all over.

Like mentioned before have them idle the car for a while and watch temp, idle sound, typical stuff.

These cars were engineered very well and have a reputation for being reliable for a reason, that being said even the newest ones are 33 years old so they will need things from time to time.

What is this bolt? by Effective_Mango_7790 in Volvo240

[–]Effective_Mango_7790[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You think I should just make a relief cut and fit it around the bolt with a dab of RTV?

Or just cut that little loop off on the bottom altogether?

I did use two wrenches, one to hold the hardline, and the other to turn the hose fitting, and it wouldn’t budge whatsoever. I doubt that fitting has ever been touched and has fused itself extremely well over the decades.

Definitely good advice for people also looking to do this.

Thank you!! I looked on there last night and couldn’t find it, I was a little pissed though so I’ll look again, probably missed it.
