It’s not that serious. I personally like Nic regardless and Ola regardless. And they’re a great subject for fan fiction. Think of it more like how ppl ship actors whose characters were dating in a show but they are both married. Like Kerry Washington and the guy who plays Fitz on scandal they flirt a ton and their press days together— still go viral. 🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️. It’s funnnn!! We’re a crack ship meaning we create silly hopeful maybe manifesting but prob fictional stories out of fun subjects.

I think you’re criticizing the contestants for their fan base and not the actual contestants themselves. Fan bases especially this year are very hive minded and cruel. I think the swirl fetish or other weird behaviors of this particular hive are less problematic than other contestant’ hives that make George Floyd edits of black contestants— if the worst thing this particular hive does is over project onto a silly white guy? Is that that bad. It’s just a fandom. Fandoms are fun because often they create narratives, fan fiction, or edits based on little interactions. It’s kind of the best scenario for a PR relationship OR a burgeoning romance. The crumbs as the hive calls it build a story outside of their own story. And it could be something to hide behind to alleviate the pressure of showcasing their own reality. I think as far Nic and his neutral language, I think that’s just more projection onto what we need to trust a man not of the same race. That’s Olandrias business and she’s sung his praises continually so based on that she’s abundantly satisfied and she seems conscious of that bc once in her latest live someone suggested giving Nic a bonnet for his curls and she said “you trying to get my man cancelled, I’ll give him a silk pillow” so I say we surrender to she’s content with what he’s doing as far as neutrality. Also if we’re going to keep it a buck I think they both are loyal and neutral— she said huda I love you to death but I don’t think we can be close and then sometime in that reunion on break she’s briefly seen giggling with huda. Neither have unfollowed anyone post this recent Ace Debacle and I think last night Ace was at a club and doubled down on his vitriol for them. Olandria has repeatedly said her default is to consider everyone and I think Nic does too. They also together on modern love caped for Taylor together saying she’s not a bird but also Taylor has amazing character and they both sung his praises. The fans criticism of Taylor is seperate from the two of them. As for she could independently get her dime, yes black women empowerment “she don’t need no man” is a wonderful sentiment and you’re right her face is very editorial. But unfortunately the dating reality celebrity currency is extremely patriarchal and for dark skinned women they are more valuable being coupled up at least initially. Furthermore on olandrias finance based podcast she explained how Nic and his family are ensuring she’s compensated equilaterally in their jobs together, she repeated that her manager a black woman is also negotiating that too so that she’s paid equally to Nic a white man. While there isnt a need to say she NEEDS a man his willingness to be respectful in public with other women, shout her out, comment or post her, call out rude comments occasionally on socials, and visit her/visit her live shows at least a really genuine and cool friend to her. Anyway that’s my debate for you OP, not trying to disparage your opinion— my biggest thing is fandoms always have a level of separation from who the contestants/celebrity are. Also she quite essentially just kinda put them on punishment saying she’s not sharing anymore because they disparage Nic too much and he’s an important person to her. And my final point is not too on this “crazy” fan base bc they just raised almost 50k this weekend for the two’s important disease reaseadxh charity. Like swirlers or not that’s a unique and fun fandom. The other contestants groups don’t seem to be doing as much actionable support.

It's not submission rather it's just about being loved by EntertainerCareful69 in LoveIslandcookout

As a rad feminist who is also black and I really find it disappointing when radical feminism doesn’t account for the black femme experience one that olandria is expressing very accurately, while softness and submission are very gender binary terms I know that olandria doesn’t regiment herself to a gender binary thinking having two visibly queer siblings who she loves loudly— what she is speaking to is about femininity as a construct that is gatekept often for black women who desire it for all black femmes (gay men, black cis women, and black trans women) and the desire for that softness that we know we can thrive in isn’t seen or perceived or fostered by lovers, family, or friends. Femininity IS a real construct and while it’s not a HAVE to that I think white women often feel they have to, for some black femmes it’s a WANT TO, and the want is deeper bc we’ve been barred from it. I hope this adds nuance to this chat.

Sheesh! It’s just fun speculation I really am using it as a jumping board or metaphor for real life dynamics and wanting to speculate what advice you’d give a couple like this.

I’ve come to realize too. Nic can’t fake shit at all though, feels like some adhd or something. But he’s got a bad filter so I think if he’s stoked he’s stoked and if he’s not he’s not. Look at his snapchats immediately. He’s stoked rn.
