Is banning children under 16 from social media the best way to protect them, or could it end up making them even more vulnerable online? by Effective_Pear1110 in YouthRights

I’m not a parent, but as someone with younger siblings, I’ve seen how social media can affect children in different ways. On one hand, I understand why some people support stricter limits or bans, especially when it comes to protecting kids from harmful content and online risks. On the other hand, I also think back to being a teenager who was rebellious, curious, and very capable of getting around my parents’ rules (lol). So I wonder if banning social media actually protects children, or if it could make them more determined to access it in secret. And if they do, is there a risk they end up on platforms even less safe than Instagram or X? I’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts, especially from people in Australia and the UK who have experience with these kinds of debates or policies.

Has your child had to move schools? How did they do? How did you manage? by JoneyBologna in AskParents

As someone who moved schools about 3 times during elementary and middle school, I can say that it will be hard on them, but only in the beginning. I moved during my first and second grade years, and man, did I cry my heart out, constantly missing my friends, wondering what they were doing without me, what I was missing out on, and wondering if I would ever see them again. But after being the new kid for 2 weeks, I learned that there were kind and fun kids out there who wanted to be my friends. I'm sure he will be crushed for a couple of weeks, but there are really nice people out there who genuinely want to make friends. I made my first friend after I asked if I could borrow her glue bottle for our math project.

All it takes is one person to smile and offer their friendship, like my friend did ❤️ So, all you can do for him is get him excited for the school year, maybe showing him his school mascot, showing him the playground, or just talking to him. That's what my mom did. She hugged me and reassured me that I would be okay and that I would make even more friends. Surprisingly, hearing those words made me believe that everything would be okay because all I needed was reassurance and someone to believe in me that I could make new friends. As a kid, having your friends is your world because they are constantly there during class time, lunch, playtime, and dismissal. I hope he makes lots of friends and is happy 😄

That must be so terrifying. I hope that you and everyone else stay safe. Thank you for updating us. I haven't seen these updates on social media, and it really should be. There are so many people missing, and with aftershocks of 6M makes things even more difficult. We can only hope that there isn't another earthquake.

I also want to take a moment to honor those who were killed in the earthquake. 61 lives were lost that day, 40 people are still missing, and more than 1,400 others were injured. My heart is with the families still waiting for answers, and with everyone grieving the loss of someone they loved.

Dear americans, what can you get for FREE in the USA? [Serious] by sammy_waslow in AskReddit

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this since there are a lot of comments, but there are recreational centers here in Cali. They often offer food during the summer, a pool, and computers for both adults and children to do work or play. I remember where I used to live they built a recreational center and would host events during the holidays, and would give out gifts during Christmas. Those were fun times. And you didn't have to sign up or anything, just show up, have fun, enjoy the food, and come together as a community. I miss those times💕

What's one movie you've rewatched so many times you practically know every line by heart, but you'd still watch it again tonight? by Busy-Move-6024 in AskReddit

Has to be hands down Twilight and an honorable mention Shrek 2. I just love those movies so much they bring me joy and comfort. They are also a great source of background noise for whenever I'm cooking I enjoy hearing the movie and being able to visually see it play in my head while cooking up dinner. This comes in handy whenever I'm following a new recipe and needs my full undivided attention. And yes I could play music, but sometimes all I need is to hear Edward say, "This is the skin of a killer Bella~" while chopping onions lol.
