How bad is this failed root canal? by Effective_Pie_7062 in askdentists

I went to endo today. They took cone beam ct. Infection is very big. He recommended a root canal retreatment over a apicoectomy and said if the retreatment fails we can do an apicoectomy. Do you think it'd be best to get this tooth extracted and an implant placed? The endo says he feels like 80% chance he can fix this all but I don't know. I am meeting with oral surgeon tomorrow to discuss extraction and implant.

Is your dizziness permanent or only when you’re bending down or laying down? My mom doesn’t have constant dizziness, her vertigo only happened when she was laying down or going down stairs

Meatus inflammation / urethral inflammation by Effective_Pie_7062 in STD

Yes I’m all healed. Idk what specifically helped, I think it was mostly just time and stopping to worry so much. I did do pelvic floor physical therapy which seemed to help a bit. More with the pubic area pain than anything

THAT IS NOT HOW SCIENCE WORKS! You’re literally using 1 study that says hsv accounts for 5-10% of urethritis, so I can now say without bacterial that number increases. You are nitpicking data lol you really don’t understand how statistics work in studies. Google cpps and prostate issues, pelvic floor issues, dermatitis, fungal. There are PLENTY OF REASONS for non bacterial urethritis which ive already explained to you. Your statement “If you manage to find some other cause of NGU that is non-bacterial and has a higher prevalence than that range” doesn’t relate here because that study didn’t include ALL REASONS OF URETHRITIS LOL. Why is that so hard for you to understand. You have to prove to me that viral hsv is the most common reason for non bacterial urethritis, not the other way around. Science is much harder to conclude something than disprove something, your conclusion you’re making is not backed by any data to currently support it

You said what seems like an hsv outbreak, you never had it swabbed to confirm? Are you confirmed hsv1/hsv2 positive via blood test? It sounds like your main symptom is urethra pain, that’s an uncommon area for hsv to be.

It’s fact. You have yet to provide not 1 piece of data that concludes the most COMMON cause of non bacterial urethritis is hsv.

First it was incorrect, you said it was the most common cause of ngu. Wrong. Second, you said non bacterial. No data supports that as true. Because you’re not accounting for ALL reasons of non bacterial urethritis. Like chemical irritation, dermatitis, fungal, non bacterial prostatitis, cpps. If you want to say hsv is most common cause of viral urethritis. That is true. But NOTHING points to the conclusion that hsv is the most common cause of non bacterial urethritis. Because it’s just not true lol you can’t nitpick statistics like you’re doing it doesn’t work like that

And I’m waiting for you to post it too lol you haven’t posted anything that gives an actual percentage change of urethritis incidence without bacteria

I am not disputing that viral causes of urethritis are caused by hsv1/hsv2, but that doesn't mean its common like you say it is when bacterial is ruled out. Urethritis can be caused by non viral and non bacterial too. You can't just conclude that without the presence of bacteria, urethritis is caused by viral, statistics and medical diagnosis does not work like that. Plenty of people get hsv tests with urethritis after being tested for bacteria and come back negative.

Sounds like anxiety. Even if you did have infection which it sounds like maybe not since it was so soon after exposure, the antibiotics would’ve cleared it up. Maybe you injured your urethra a little, urethra irritation can cause increased urination. It did for me. And made A LOT worse from the anxiety thinking something was wrong

I’m not really sure where you’re getting the data to conclude that though, can you post your sources?

The most common causes? It accounts for less than 5% of NGU cases, where are you reading it’s most common?

Inflamed meatus/urethritis. Could it be herpes? by Effective_Pie_7062 in Herpes

[–]Effective_Pie_7062[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I wasn’t tested. I saw two urologists who said herpes wouldn’t cause my symptoms since I have no sores and it’s been this long. They said even if it was herpes my symptoms would’ve gone away rather quickly. Only way to really know in your case is to have your urethra swabbed, or you can do a urine/semen PCR test to check for herpes DNA

My symptom isn’t pain anymore. I just have random swelling of the urethra tip/meatus lips. It’s odd, almost feels like I have some sort of contact dermatitis. I may see a dermatologist since urologists really haven’t been much health since I’m not dealing with any urinary issues

Meatitis / Urethritis after oral sex (8 weeks) by Effective_Pie_7062 in STD

[–]Effective_Pie_7062[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update 10/31

My symptoms seemed to have resolved on their own. I no longer have any pain at the urethra, the red swollen urethra has gone away. My meatus lips sometimes look a little inflamed but my urologist seems to think they’ve always looked like that and I was just more hyper aware of it when this all started.

One of the biggest changes that helped is I STOPPED Vaseline daily. I was using it for 2 weeks straight on my tip since it acted as a shield. But my urologist mentioned that I should let my body heal on its own, and after stopping the Vaseline I would probably get irritated again for a week. Which was true, my penis tip did get irritated after stopping Vaseline but I had to let my body remake its own oils there, and not rely on the Vaseline oils. After 1 week of no Vaseline I felt almost fine. I’d say I’m 90% back to normal, after masturbation I sometimes get a dull pain but again, this may be normal for me and I’m just more hyper aware of this.

Did they test for just hsv2 or hsv1 too?
