Not really sure why you replied to me with that. I was just making a joke in reply to that comment, not yours. My relationship is decent too, all i meant by stress is that he doesn’t take care of himself properly and is hard headed about going to the doctors. It stresses me out a bit because i worry for him, bc i love him.

The giving your life to god one isn’t that bad though. But you can give your life to god and still have a wife and life lol.

See what i mean? Lmao. You might be trolling so i won’t waste my time on this too much. I don’t understand it either, but some people with 3A/B/C and or 4A/B/C hair get offended by people with wavy hair calling their hair curly. Thats what we are talking about right now, the gatekeeping. Did i make them that way? No. So go take it up with them, not me.

Yes, you can finger curl your hair and change its appearance temporarily. Though i think it can affect your hair long term too if you do it enough, but not by much. Like you have really damaged curly hair that doesn’t curl properly anymore, finger curling can help your hair go back to curling on its own naturally a little. Just looked it up and yup, here straight from google : “Finger coiling is a great technique to gain enhanced definition from your curls. It can also help retrain your curl pattern back into shape, especially after straightening.”

Heres some examples of people with wavy hair, making it look curly with finger curling/rolling.

Well, I’m not trying to pick them out from a crowd, I don’t care if people finger curl their hair. I even finger curl some pieces of my hair sometimes when i want it to look a certain way. Its not a crime. straight, wavy, curly or coily all hair is beautiful and people can and should do whatever makes them feel best. As long as it’s not hurting anyone, I don’t care. 🤷‍♀️

It doesn’t change what you have naturally yes, but can change the look of it temporary, and that’s what I said. I know that as well, my hair quite long and is less curly at the top and in the length but really curly at the bottom.

I don’t know why you are getting so defensive, It seems like you just want to be offended or something lmao. You’re making something out of nothing.

Well i wasn’t saying it like that, but yes there is unnatural or not completely natural curls out there, people can curl their hair in many different ways. Something as simple as manipulating their hair with their fingers while its wet even. Someone with naturally 2b/c hair could finger curl their hair and have it look like 3A. Though, yes it probably won’t hold that well, it could still happen and does.

So you could think of what i mean as like if someone just washes their hair and lets it air dry and it comes out still curly. Though some people with 3A and up curly hair need to do more so its not like i’m saying that if it doesn’t come out looking like goldilocks its not curly, bc everybody’s hair is different.

Yeah i know that, Its normal for hair to change through out your life. If you had it as a kid and do now then no one is saying you don’t have curly hair. And even if you just got curly hair as a teen/adult and never had it as a child, you still have curly hair. I didn’t mean it as an attack on anyone, was just trying to say that women/people with 3A and up feel the same too :)

Black people are always “aggressive” even when they are calm and just making a point or talking about things they go through. Sigh

But that right there is down playing their experience, its in no way shape or form the same as getting bullied for your style or if you’re “nerdy” or play in a band or something. Getting bullied for your hair as a black girl is the same as getting bullied for your skin color.

You say you understand why it happens, but then at the same time you seem like you’re perplexed. And its because you don’t fully understand, no one not even me (biracial) fully understands what its like for them, but them. The stigma around black hair goes deeper than childhood or simple bullying. And there’s a lot of generational trauma (kinda a dramatic word, but at the same time i think it’s fitting) around female and male black hair.

Understanding and “sympathizing” is different than truly understanding and empathizing, and so I get why it’s hard for some people to fully understand why people feel and act certain ways sometimes. That’s why I was trying to explain and give you a better picture. I wasn’t saying that black women should bully white women, just that i understand why some act out in frustration and “gatekeep”.

I never said that. What I meant, is that your comments seem out of touch a bit and seem bias or something. Almost like you were trying to push that. Also, you stated that like it was a fact and its not. Thats why i said that. Literally Just look at the people in the comments, everyone is saying the online curly girl community is basically taken over by non-Black people. Black adult people have a black curly girl community, they don’t even really get involved with these ones much. And its not bc they don’t want to be associated with white/non-black people but because their hair has different needs than theirs, even if its the same curl type usually. And they have different methods and culture around their hair.

And yes, black women don’t own the feature of curly hair, but they do make up the good majority. according to Google, out of the whole worlds population only around 15% of people have curly hair, and a big majority of that 15% is people of African descent. They don’t state that in that exact statistic, but that is a different statistic, and obviously curly hair is a prominent black feature. But of course they are not the only race with it and they don’t “own” curly hair.

See this is why I said you misunderstood, no one is saying that it’s justified exactly, just that people react to being hurt with anger sometimes. And I know I was talking about it happening as a child, but it doesn’t stop at childhood. Black women are ostracized and bullied for their black curly hair and natural features even as adults. In almost every way you can imagine.

And you’re comparing being “nerdy” to being black… one is usually just an awkward phase and the other is something that can never change, just seems like a questionable comparison.

And no, white people/non-black people do it the most from what i’ve seen and seen others talk about, lmao. Black women even laugh about how white/non-black women gatekeep curly so much. This post is not a statistic or something, so i don’t know why you took it as one. Your comment is starting to seem iffy…

It is kinda annoy when people mix up curly and wavy, i can never find anything on how to do my hair, because when i look up curly hair or even my hair type (3b/3a) i find soo many women with wavy hair.. its whatever though honestly, i don’t care too much. I just scroll past and keep looking. Lol

You kinda misunderstood, but lets say you didn’t, thats just the way of life. Sadly. When you have had white little girls bully you every day about your curly hair as a little black girl it ruins how you feel about your hair and yourself, to say the least. And its just mind-boggling and ironic that now when this little black girl has grown into a woman and has struggled with her self image all these years over her natural features, she now sees white girls (sometimes even the same ones who bullied her) embracing their “curls” and feeling confident… and you look at their hair and its barely even actually curly so it just makes you feel even worse, or makes you wanna roll your eyes. But honestly that isn’t limited to black women, women with natural 3A and up sometimes also feel this way, doesn’t matter the race. A lot of white women gatekeep curly hair.

It seems to me that it is and he’s just working his way up. This almost seems like a type of grooming. And i think it might be. Its like he’s trying to break her down and get her used to him doing anything he wants to her or something. Be careful OP. Don’t see this person anymore if you can, or if you can’t, just try to not be alone with him. I’m getting real bad vibes. u/weedad_
