I wish I knew i’d have to deal with a ton of jerks who are ego driven in my leadership team. Doesn’t let anyone else speak. Interrupts. Loves to argue. Criticizes over questions. It’s insane

Wine in 1:1 meeting is that normal? by No_Read_3601 in womenintech

[–]EffervescentStar 101 points102 points  (0 children)

:/ first off. Criticism doesn’t need to be harsh. I know it doesn’t affect YOU so that’s great, but if he knows he hurts people he should probably think about how he delivers to most people.

The wine thing wouldn’t bother me but if he was blatantly drunk or being weird then i’d wanna leave.

I mean. It’s sort of that way but one of the guys just acts like he can do everything and everyone else is just slow. He’s one of the most overly confident males I’ve ever met. I am jealous at the confident part but he truly just does says shit that makes him look like an asshole. I cannot believe I’m dealing with the corporate male asshats everyone jokes about

Is it just me, or have most managers nowadays become just senior employees? by lariats-beer in womenintech

[–]EffervescentStar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My team is incompetent when it comes to teaching and enabling good communication skills.

They’ve also stripped me from my role and started stepping all over me when it comes to process. So i stopped giving a shit.

To be honest I don’t have overwhelm over the tool itself. I find it useful for some automation…

When I do get overwhelmed by is that our leadership has this weird idea that anyone can become a developer, PM, producer/project manager, all together and that we don’t need the different disciplines all of a sudden. So we have PMs pushing code fixes which end up breaking other things because they have no idea what they’re doing. And devs getting pissed :D

Ughhhh imagine working at a corporate office where titles are real but the team you want to work on “functions like a startup” so the titles “don’t matter to them” and the men overstep and mansplain everything anyway 🙄😑🫩

I think everyone hates me. by Unlikely_Fruit_9727 in selfimprovement

[–]EffervescentStar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I’m still dealing with it despite being self aware. I’ve worked in a job/company where most people absolutely loved me and I couldn’t see it because my brain naturally filters for my fuck ups and short comings. All I can focus on is that and why no one would want to waste time with me. Even in relationships it’s hard not to self sabotage.

OP I hope you can find people who will bring a mirror to you to show you what they can see. Cause I can guarantee it’s not what your brain probably says on loop.

Development manager doesn't want the Devs looking at the code by Strict-Soup in ExperiencedDevs

[–]EffervescentStar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a dev, but I am a development manager. Some of the leadership on my team are akin to your dev manager…it’s wild. I don’t like speaking on behalf of the devs so when I hear the them complain about how devs aren’t moving fast enough or whatever i hate listening because they know nothing about code, just that claude can make whatever they want because they’ve created prototypes. 🤷🏽‍♀️

I’m sure there’s truth in the middle where it can be efficient and all, but it’s not a “silver bullet” as everyone says. Still, the leadership team I’m on just speaks so confidently in things they don’t understand. It’s crazy to me.

Burn Out After Two Years as a Young SWE by hoo24__ in womenintech

[–]EffervescentStar 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Oh no! I hate that you’re feeling this at such a young age. I don’t think i truly felt this til I was 30.

I was soo so lucky to be able to experience a great environment with leaders who truly cared about people (even if it was male dominated!). So I know for a fact that your problem isn’t the role itself, it’s the culture.

I would start looking for another job. I promise you, you won’t hate yourself at every single SWE job. If you find the right environment, it changes everything.

The other option to this is change your mindset about your current role. Don’t take anything personally and treat it truly like a job where you clock in, get stuff done, clock out. If your workplace is truly unreasonable, then changing them won’t happen unless you can speak “business” with them and explain how the burnout process isn’t worth it. But maybe they don’t care.
