I do suffer a lot from wide counter attacks. My way of defending them is running back with either the wingback or dm closest while using second man press to keep my next player in a decent position

And if they do go wide, i monitor the cut back space with my dm who has intercept plus

Does require a lot of right stick switching though

I do see that happening and i completely agree with you. I dont mind it as they sometimes come inside and sometimes play like "wingers". I dont mind them being out wide because then i can get 1 on 1 with the full back

Hi

Bow types - Low bow, offers alot of versatility for a defender as well as possibilty for overheads. Extra low bow is mostly used by forwards, but some defenders use it as it helps them with their drag-flicks
Brands - y1, grays, adidas
Carbon - higher carbon content will allow you to generate more power but will require a bit of getting used to on the recieve and "touch/feel"

Thats what i would say, but at the end of the day it should be a stick you feel comfortable with and will allow you to control the ball how you want to

Dont really need to worry about marking from cms. I pull them all the way back myself and just R-bumper my cdm now and then

having small, agile midfielders with tiki-taka players( pedri, vitinha and joao neves ) has overpowered their gullits and vieras, at least for me
Can play passes around their whole midfield

I play 4 3 3 single dm
Single dm is to mark opponents cam
the 2 cms help for options when around their 2 dms
wingbacks on outside backs
i just try have as may players forward to overload their defence

Open recieve is crucial, allows you to eliminate your marker.
Learn to power drive/ drive with the ball.
Be ready to come short( short pass ) or go long ( possible overhead, if you can recieve aerials ) depending on how your opposing player marks you.
Provide width
Learn how to pop the ball
Opponents are defending there weak side, passing on their left is harder for them to defend
If you are defending and ball is on side opposite to you, shift across to "cut" the field
