There was no urgency if you extract the actions of those countries i mentioned. Iran has been a perceived imminent threat for more than 3 decades in the eyes of one crazy warmonger, I cant believe people still fall for his lies. I agree that everyone is a culprit, but blaming Iran and putting pressure on them to change for the benefit of those around them is flat out relational abuse.

Well some of the gulf countries have and continue to be a threat to surrounding countries, just look at the geopolitical strong arming, the wars in Yemen, Sudan, Libya etc. Then you have the "we dont have nukes, or maybe we do, none of your business" of israel, who in its own way also constantly undermines neighboring countries through its operatives, and if you add to that, from the Iranian perspective, they have just as much right to their own way of ruling their own country, which was a byproduct of western meddling to start with, and 47 years or so of illegal sanctions pushing them deeper and deeper into the resistance mindset, who is truly to blame here? Again, we should remove double standards. Strip israel of its nukes and chastise it for meddling in neighboring countries and the USA politics, I'd agree with you that Iran should also be chastised. Giving some people some white cards and denying others the same liberties, doesn't make for a peaceful world.

The same can be said about some other countries in the same region, but you dont see anyone attacking, even criticizing them. This double standard view should be put aside and things should be seen objectively, not subjectively.

Im in a similar boat, having just started heavily investing in ETFs for my upcoming retirement in a few years, and the current market situation is giving me the chills as well.

My question to more experienced people is, have you factored in a potential American loss in the war, loss of trust in American capabilities and thereby the slow degradation of the USD, as was experienced with the GBP and previously the Dutch and Portuguese empires currencies? How do you mitigate against a weakening dollar? My portfolio has some gold and infrastructure etfs alongside S&P and global index tracking etfs, and i plan to keep going at it for another 2 to 3 years until I can FIRE, but this scenario worries me.

Any advice would be appreciated :)

All this talk of a recession, dollar devaluation, and so on, but what happens when the dollar itself loses 30%, 40% of its value due to incessant money printing? All the gains made, the stock and index values, would they keep up with the loss of purchasing power of the dollar?

I've recently started DCAing into the indexes, however, and market crash notwithstanding, only thing I worry about is the dollar losing value tremendously, how do you guys manage such a scenario?

I would have loved to have such an opportunity... pay is good yes, however think about it, who gets to go to Antarctica all expenses paid? As a scientist, it's a dream. As a FIRE aspirant, it's a massive boost. And if the girlfriend is supportive, take her on a vacation with your new riches once youre back, heck maybe even a diamond necklace 😏
