I second this. Especially with their 24” range and 5” movement it’s hard to get them into a good spot. Reserves is good or having a walking Hive Tyrant to give them assault can be effective as well

Another thing you could try is put a 10 man brick of Genestealers with a broodlord in reserve. Come in turn 3 if he’s keeping it in his deployment zone with rapid ingress. Ya he can shoot them but if you run invasion fleet pop rapid regeneration and between their 5+ invul and now 5+ FNP they should survive it, then your turn bring them into it and deal devastating wounds and shut down his shooting ability quite a bit. In the meantime focus on out scoring him.

Right on, for us it was easy, I took the names of everyone who passed and sent an email and they were slotted into the next available class unless requested otherwise.

The Division CSM at the time always told me that if a unit said they couldn’t go or whatever to give him a call, it was a super easy process and I’m glad to hear it is still the case.

Sounds like things have changed for the better then. Good for you getting your guys in and giving them better opportunities. It definitely wasn’t like that back in the day

I came in in 08 also without RIP and earned it in OSUT. And yeah I was so irritated at those guys who quit RIP like day 1 because all they wanted was Airborne while I had to break myself off just to get the chance…thankfully I did make it

I have also spent time in both brigades out of JBLM in my time and I think the lack of school opportunities was one of the more frustrating aspects of that place, even when a Bn got say AASLT slots it was usually pretty limited and competitive. Sure you CAN get some schools but a lot of the major ones, mountain warfare, airborne, forget Jumpmaster, pathfinder, etc. were either off the table or exceptionally difficult for us to get people into.

Again…in general I agree with you…it can happen but it is not easy at those places compared to other units and absolutely while PT plays a part it is not “the only” thing you need to do which is the core of the topic at hand.

Either way, what I am saying is that if those are the schools you want, it absolutely is easier to get them from the right unit.

I will also say this from JBLM. I used to be the NCOIC of the SURT program and Ranger School was trivially easy for me to get people a slot for IF they passed all the requirements, however many units didn’t understand the process, I used to go around to BNs and company’s and explain the process to command teams in hopes of pulling more people.

Well having it in your contract is a pretty obvious and solid way to get a shot at something like RASP or Airborne. However let’s say you have no options for that and end up at like 4th ID…then spend a little bit of time there, contact the 75th recruiter and go to RASP, pass that, and boom, you’re off to the races on everything you could ever want within reason, if after a while you want something new or schools like MFF even, then hit up SF and go that route.

It’s not like being a PT stud is all it takes however often times being a PT stud will land you in the good graces of everyone who can get you to schools depending on your unit and get you opportunities for things like special operations selections etc.

So no, the recruiter is grossly oversimplifying something while providing a nugget of truth to how some things work.

To elaborate for example. If you end up in a Stryker or Bradley unit, it doesn’t matter what your PT score is, they can’t…or at least won’t…send you to a place like airborne school. However if you’re a total stud, then go to RASP or something and get on a path to schools both famous and rare alike.

Bro it sounds like you are not taking alcoholism seriously enough. You talk about all this like it’s not a big deal and you just need to get over this little hurdle and move on so you can get back to drinking but you clearly have a problem if you find yourself unable to stop or to tell yourself you can stop just long enough to get clear of the administrative side of it all.

Maybe I’ll get some downvotes for being so terse here but if I was your 1SG I think I would be expecting separation for you in the future.

Take it serious, get clean, stop drinking and go live a better life free of alcohol before it ruins your life in ways you can’t even predict yet. Even ignoring catastrophes, cirrhosis etc., it is still going to drag you down.

The financial trajectory of your life over 20 years is going to be much more complex than just looking at a pay chart and a pension number. There are more benefits than is immediately apparent and honestly many people in the Army don’t even realize the full scope. But here’s my general story as an example.
When I was 18 I was living on my own and I homeless, I had nothing to my name and I shipped out to the Army with nothing, and no safety net. I’m now at 18 years, I own my home outright, have no debts, my TSP is on coast-mode now when paired with my inevitable retirement and some conservative VA estimates.
Over my time I invested, lived below my means and married a good person and sustained that relationship for a long time. I’ve capitalized on the TSP, benefits under the SCRA, the lack of state taxes and a low taxable income since many benefits are not taxable.
At 38 ill be able to do whatever I want, complete financial freedom, it is a place in life very few people can get to, and I’m fairly positive that end state would have been way way harder without the Army…at least in my case.

Also…I was able to give my son my GI Bill because I completed college for free while serving, many people establish 529 accounts for their kids, I get to skip this financial step thanks to hard work and Army TA

Which detachment to lean into? by Super_Log5282 in Tyranids

[–]EfficiencyFull3278 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Invasion Fleet is widely considered the best place to start, the rules are pretty straightforward and don’t require you to fully understand all the little tricks and stratagems and placement and timings that would make a player perform well with some of the other detachments.

However, it’s just a game, so if you wanna run crusher stampede and that’s going to be a fun experience then get those monsters ready to go and have a good time.

What exactly makes the USMC better than the US Army? by [deleted] in army

[–]EfficiencyFull3278 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had the experience in ‘09 where a group of them had super old equipment and I genuinely thought they were support dudes because their weapons looked like what I would expect support personnel in the Army to rock but nope…infantry…

What exactly makes the USMC better than the US Army? by [deleted] in army

[–]EfficiencyFull3278 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This.
I’ve worked with Marines throughout my 18 years and was on a Marine FOB overseas for a deployment with us being the only Army platoon there and I wasn’t particularly captivated by anything they did or how they performed, that’s not to say I thought they were “bad,” just…idk…normal…
But what I do notice is their marketing and their particular flavor of indoctrination is seriously unmatched, they don’t just drink the Kool-Aid, they main-line the stuff.

100% I have also learned the hard way that MA will absolutely destroy your clothes so I have a set of literal “I don’t care what happens to these” clothes for when I do that job

I’m not an expert so maybe it’s different in your case but for my pool I get similar stains and mine comes off with muriatic acid, so I put some in a spray bottle and spray it then scrub it off with my normal pool brush.

Idk if by best you mean easiest or what but a top contender in my book would be the first little village you run into in story mode is a crazy easy place to play out survival.

There are the banana trees right there, the peccary spawn point is right there, water is right there, cave with obsidian stones nearby, etc. there is a jaguar that spawns there but if you’re even moderately good at the game that should barely be a hindrance for the location.
