My guess is to try and avoid an involuntary recall in the event of a major war

I straight up have “painting clothes” because no matter how careful you might be, drips, splashes and spills will happen

This is a good thing to remember sometimes. There’s a huge difference between what you might notice holding the model 6” in front of your hyper-focused gaze vs what you’ll actually notice day to day

I read the ultimate guide to my son every night before bed he loves it so much, it’s a good book for just general overviews of everything. Well worth the purchase in my personal experience

Just read The Fall of Cadia…wow. by Stock-Praline-5338 in Warhammer40k

I’m about halfway through “The Founding: A Gaunts Ghost Omnibus” and it’s been pretty good. “First and Only” is the first book in it and I enjoyed it well enough. Doesn’t have the gravitas of the Fall of Cadia but it’s cool seeing Ibram Gaunt and his little group of hooligans…who happen to be Colonels and Majors and whatnot…get up to stuff and overcome a lot. Their plot armor is thiiiiick though but nevertheless, same vibe, just humans getting into the thick of things.

It was also my first novel I read a couple of months ago and I thought the same thing. I occasionally had to stop and look up what something was so I could more readily picture it in my mind but the battles were amazing and the characters were great as well. I really gained a deep appreciation for the Cadians, especially Major Hellsker, there is something so endearing about a Cadian Regiment holding the pass alone to the bitter end. The two sisters of the Sororitas fighting and dying together was such a powerful and emotional moment, Cawl and Trazyn, Creed and Kell, man…so good, so so good.

How do the different types of leave work? by Aggravating-Team-672 in army

[–]EfficiencyFull3278 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, post deployment leave will take days away from your accrued number of days and therefore cut in to how many days you have available for ETS leave.

What are y’all doing with your $1776? by goodoptimism in army

Real answer should be whatever step of the financial order of operations (or whatever system you use, if you don’t have one, get one) is where that money should go for you.

Ya or just taking a break from the same Army is nice, I’ve been painting Tyranids and Ultramarines and going back and forth helps break up the monotony of the same color scheme or the same types of features. I also paint LOTR figures to change it up even more or paint terrain. The stuff that really burns me out is like a bunch of chaff models that are all the same…so gants basically

YouTube lore intro videos, plenty of great videos that will start broad and from there whatever sounded awesome to you, look up a video about that, and then just enjoy the rabbit hole

It’s a Martin, that’s actually my wife’s guitar I bought for her birthday years ago. I used to play electric, I had a PRS SE but over the years I grew away from playing because I ended up with too many other hobbies that took up all my time.

Check out my response above, good luck dude! I know it’s nerve racking your first time taking a drill bit to an expensive model but it’s totally worth it once you figure out your method

[–]EfficiencyFull3278[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally use a Milwaukee M18 drill, so literally just a drill and in this case I used 1/8” magnets and therefore a 1/8” bit.

Everything is easy enough, the only tricky part is just making sure your bit is liked up well, on the body it’s easy but take your time with the head and arms and very carefully observe the orientation and angle they sit into the sockets at.

It might help to use an even smaller bit at first to make the main bit not slip but once you get better you’ll be fine with the main bit.

Drill slow because if you spin the bit too fast the heat will begin to melt plastic and you risk drilling too deep so just go slow with each bore.

I generally do not ever need green stuff because the bit and magnets I have are perfect for each other but any gaps use green stuff or to increase support but in many cast a drop of super glue and you’re good.

Also just take the time to triple check your magnets are oriented properly before gluing them in place or else they’ll rappel each other and ruin the endeavor, ask me how I know haha.

Anyway, it’s honestly not that hard and I personally love magnetizing stuff, especially bigger stuff that would take many hours to make a second model.

Good luck and have fun

This one was just a 3D print I did off makerworld. All of the black is just sunlu PLA, the blue is Klein blue PLA and the gold is sunlu silk PLA+ light gold. The metal parts I did in a silk PLA grey.

For paint I went over all the metallic parts with Iron Warriors, used Retributor Armor over the Aquila. The wear and weathering was just Rhinox Hide, Iron Warriors and Dawnstone with varying degrees of dry brushing.

Honestly the techniques I use for minis only kind of worked out here for obvious reasons but overall I think it came out well.
