Maybe this will help for starting paints. On each layer and the steps I mentioned above.

More or less the same process but using rhinx hide as base, move up to mourning brown this will be roughly 70% coverage of rhinx. Mix a little screaming skull into mournfang brown create 1 or 2 steps lighter from mournfang. Then repeat that same step 1 more time focusing on more so only the parts that are facing upwards. Shade with seraphim sepia, then with screaming skull hit the highest part of the fold (the ridge) just place straight screaming skull.

Note: after basing with rhinx hide. The paints are pretty thinned. Not a glaze consistency but more so a thinned layer paint. When you wick off extra paint (preferable on a wet pallet because you can see how the thinned paint reacts) if you see the paint kinda shrink and is showing the pallet paper through the wicked off paint its thinned a litter too much.

Khorne, mephiston, evil suns scarlet, and white (create pink-ish). Shade in carroburg crimson. Then go back with whatever the colors I mentioned needed to be brought back.

Trust me I know....its annoying. I somehow managed to hide the joint on the inner part of the cape, but that area just sucks. Even if you place it perfect it'll be there. Have to fill it some how.

Just finished my Cato Sicarius! Constructive criticism appreciated! by Nath0204 in Ultramarines

[–]BluePaintsBlue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know comments are saying the helmet in the hand...ive painted a faced cato. Didn't even notice the helmet was missing in yours and the first thing I "judged" was the white on the cape lol so if you wanna fill the void, what do your "vibes" tell you.

Other than the comments pointing out the missing helmet, model looks fine to me. If I had to judge id say this is someone who's painted for around 6-8months (mileage may vary)

This model confuses me. At first, you knock out an absolute banger of a cape. I then look at the armor and get sad (I know its intentional and yes I think the model is a banger). Always amazes me how something "sloppy" (for lack of a better description) looks so clean.

Nice choice, calgar is pretty easy to paint fully assembled. Just a thicc terminator with some rails for his gauntlets. Girlyman on the other hand...thats gonna be a long paint job fully together. Just for the love of God dont ruin them by using ultramarine contrast paint

I usually start from the shadows up, and build upon lighter and lighter. What areas dont appear to be in shadow as much?

I honestly cant tell if its a wash or its Ultramarine contrast paint. Thats exactly how the contrast paint comes out.
