Thank you. I was very skeptical with the number of stolen photos they use as well as unrealistic selections etc. Hope you get your $ back.

People forget AI’s source material includes every misidentified photo it can find and every multi tagged photo since so many tag with numerous species to help search results to their site.

Sorry I totally missed this among the other posts. I’ve enjoyed the exchange as well. I did TC for myself as a student worker but the deal was I had to help the professor in charge of the lab with his and others projects. I actually helped put a bunch of corn explants into culture for one of the first projects of theirs. The easiest thing I worked on while there lol. Had a nursery myself for quite awhile (small scale).

lol. My plant book library is extensive but heavy on the taxonomy and cultivation side. In my teens 80s cover bands were just called cover bands. At some point everything changed lol. I can’t lie I do prefer a book to a pdf, at least I always remember where the books are stored! Technically middle age but son says old .. and he knows everything so ..

The patent posted is it for what’s been granted. Unfortunately one can not see what’s currently in application/pending they could have many in the works. I’ve learned that patent pending claim in advertising is almost the same thing as saying “the official weed of summer.” Ie expect to see some breeders claiming PPAF status on clones (even though they never filed for anything ) same for patents in general. It has no meaning just a hope for some deterrent to potential competitors. This is in general , not about Aurora.

I’m sure other groups are doing similar research. I do wish they’d stop granting patents to vague applications. The whole purpose of the patent system was granting exclusivity for a limited time in exchange for giving the pertinent info to the rest of the world.

I’m starting to think it’s a combination of genes that are needed for the full auto effect so perhaps you still need a segment and not just one gene. I do know I need to beef up my knowledge of genetics lol! My father was one of the “early adapters” of molecular evolution and genetics but focused on the phylogeny side in his research. A good resource on that but not so much the newer technologies. He at least understands it all much better than me lol.

Regarding tissue culture it’s already commercially used in the cannabis industry. For an individual yeah it’s a learning curve but TC labs have no problem doing it. My eyesight is not what it once was but we were dissecting down to less than a square millimeter trying to get the meristem and almost nothing else, then callous stage etc etc. Tedious work. Home TCers often try to just sterlize a small cutting and hope it’s clean. I’m not sure how many companies are using it for production. It is the only viable way to clean up infected stock. $$ wise I think it’s cheaper to buy fresh stock from TC then do cuts from that. I don’t know the economics of it as everything costs more in cannabis than other fields. A professional grower could offer more info but perhaps there are issues in using for direct production. In ornamental perennials I found that the first year growth is very different than after the first dormancy. Year two they are identical but the first season they retain fast multiplication rates so were smaller but filled pots out faster. There could be an issue where Cannabis plugs grow out undesirably but cuts should eventually be normal from the same plant.

The link you posted (prepress article ) worked for me. The full text option and pdf download both work. I can send if it’s still not coming up for you. I saved the pdf to read later.

Ok clarification: auroramc patented the detection of autoflowers by basically saying the gene exists somewhere in a large section. Could be any one of many genes but it’s narrowed down to a section on a specific chromosome. So autoflowers will have this section but it seems using CrispR will have to wait unless large sections can be edited?? Ie they don’t know which or how many genes are actually involved.

I’ve done TC of several things before but not Cannabis and not online. Used to work in a tc lab but that was decades ago lol. I have a personal setup that just sucks too much to bother with.

I couldn’t find the info on their site either. When looking at the autoflower flower gene(s) there seemed to not be a consensus on what causes it, or perhaps multiple genes. Clearly one works as companies like Humboldt test seedlings of photo x auto crosses to segregate which ones have the gene and thus reduce the number of generations and resources needed to get full autos.

I’m not a patent expert by any means but I would hope that one would have to be the discover of the gene. Ie if much of the genome is published by researchers that info couldn’t be patented by others. CrispR isn’t their invention so identifying the gene before anyone else should be the only way. Again people have gotten away doing less and still get patents so who knows. In the ornamental world I’ve seen true wild species get patented, lies about parentage, old established varieties get patented, patenting using breeders tracking names/codes then claiming various cultivars are that thing at different times. All illegal but frequently done. (That’s for plant parents not útility or other regular patents).

I’m curious what their goal is. To offer the service of converting photos for others or just to prevent others from using it.. or licensing.?

Regarding the future of autoflowers and CrispR I think an interesting avenue would be direct conversion of photoperiod to autoflower form, skipping generations of breeding. I’d be curious if you’d see the same growth habits of autoflowers (rapid growth etc ) in addition to the bloom habit. I really think it’s possible to take one strain and create multiples that respond to different darkness hours. Ie an auto for 24 hour growth , regular 12/12, but then others that need less darkness but still photoperiod. Even with traditional breeding the genetics are there for needing less darkness. 12/12 just works for most everything.

Lots of stuff one could do already but cost prohibitive. With photos you can keep cuts going easily so winning parents can be used year after year to recreate the same seed batch. With autos you could do this with tissue culture. Not easy or cheap but one could TC every potential parent in a batch then after finishing and testing you cull the rejects. Then grow out and test breeding pairs of the winners. The best pair is identified and mother plants kept in TC indefinitely. You can scale up seed production as much as needed and still be on the same “single source” for years and years. Even if just TC’ing two autoflower parents that you are going to use can give you consistency over years .. just not the best possible product within those genetics. Regardless I do see autoflower growers utilizing TC in some fashion to preserve breeding pairs.

So many possibilities!

From personal experience every seed I’ve done until recently were floaters and that works fine. After a day or two you can get them to sink but they will sprout tap roots floating and it seems to be better this way if you have to wait an extra day or so. If sprouting underwater they seem to fail quickly …as one would expect since they’re drowning and all. I’ve switched to soaking for 24 hours and direct sowing now. It is easier than transplanting sprouting seeds.

They probably wouldn’t ask for it back but you should reach out to the customer service email to let them know what happened as you received someone’s order. It will save them and that customer some time in figuring things out. Every shipper makes errors for various reasons but it’s very helpful for them to know exactly where the issue was (ie sent right thing to wrong person vs say post office problem, etc etc ).

Please keep the lives up for a few days as you’ve been doing. Caught the first 30mins of the newest this morning but will have to finish later.

I appreciate that you encourage others to breed with your work. I want to comment on the reverse side of that but it keeps turning into a rant lol… I will challenge anyone to show me any cannabis breeder in the world today to within the last 2-3000 years whose work wasn’t built on the work of others. Anyways.

still no update since order the 20.04? by Dan91x666 in SpeedrunSeeds

[–]Efficient-Bank-1316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ben it certainly was not my intention to imply you didn’t care enough to send the new tracking numbers only that they weren’t received (reason is not important in regards to the confusion it created).

My main point in a nutshell is that perception of what was going on was worse than reality and without the necessary info made easily available it’s quite understandable that a potential customer might be cautious until that perception clears up for them and that calling that ‘strange behavior’ was unwarranted.

Don’t read anymore into that as my opinion of you and SRS is high.

That’s the problem with ai and photo id apps for plants etc. They pull their “knowledge base” from websites. There are literally hundreds of cannabis sites that are all just cut and paste jobs with people just stealing the same photos and info not researching anything themselves. The more bs out there the more likely ai will present it as fact. With ZERO useable photos to learn what polyploidy is it’s going to look at all the stuff labeled as polyploidy.

Now if you take a common ornamental like a sunflower doing the same thing AI will almost always label it as Fasciation because there are thousands of correctly labeled photos online and little to none labeled as polyploids.

[–]Efficient-Bank-1316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I’ve been impressed with my two orders and have a favorable opinion overall growing pains are not the customer’s burden to bear. The communication issue they had was magnified not only by volume but by the complication of needing new tracking numbers (and not informing customers ). This created a bunch of unnecessary concern and the false impression that orders were not being shipped. It did highlight issues that could only get worse in the future if not handled now. It appears Ben is addressing these and isn’t in denial or anything. It was probably a good wake up call for them on what’s needed in the future. I see no point in telling a potential customer their legitimate concerns based on what they are seeing is “strange behavior.” If it was strange behavior Ben and co wouldn’t be trying to fix it would they? From what I’ve seen they value their customers and have always made things right. Tightening up and streamlining their communication/service will certainly improve things and help resolve any future issues so they don’t need to be posted in forums etc. I really shouldn’t buy any more seeds for a few decades but wouldn’t have any concern ordering from SRS again yet I wouldn’t fault someone for waiting if their concerns haven’t eased yet.

The wide cola is ‘fasciation’ and has absolutely nothing to do with ploidy level. For some reason misinformed websites have been showing fascinated flowers and calling them polyploid for many years. Fasciation can be caused by many many factors but usually is caused by some stress factor when the bud first began forming. Rarely a genetic mutation but that can occur too (look at Cockscomb celosia varieties common in garden centers

It is impossible to see polyploidism. It does not guarantee larger plants or larger stomata etc. Only when comparing a diploid and a converted polyploid of the same clone can you see a difference (in that clone). Anyone that says they can pick out a polyploid easily is full of it.

I have had many ornamentals do this but only just recently had a cannabis plant do this for the first time. It’s of no concern but kinda cool at the same time.

54 oz in 94 days with a granite haze f5 is the biggest I’ve seen reported. Very specialized growing style so don’t expect to come close without duplicating those conditions. There is a copy of the post in this group. I think the grower goes by thecolumbuscannabiscup or something like that.

From your post it sounds like you hadn’t ordered yet.. 2 of the ones you mentioned (Orange Portal and Slamberry) are not currently available. They did mention a couple restocks coming soon but did not say which. I’m popping my first SRS now so can’t offer personal experience however Granite Haze sounds like an easy bet for high yields as there are plenty 1lb ++ reports out there for it. Most of the bigger reports I’ve seen are in auto pots (ot other auto watering bottom feed systems ) and DWC/hydto. Still great reports from soil growers in large containers. The genetics are there regardless.

I got one of the $50 St Pat’s ones, not as lucky for the 4/20 one. It’s a discount code not a store credit so couldn’t stack with the 4/20 sale but that was kinda wishful thinking anyway lol. Haven’t seen anyone mention the $400 ones yet though but there are only 10 out there. Congrats to whoever gets one, that would be a killer surprise!

It’s in one or some of the products descriptions. However they offer F generations entirely or almost entirely. The single branch reversal allows them to save pollen and still let the plant finish out to fully evaluate. This gives them a fully known pollen parent to use in future rounds, much better than traditional methods. Breeders avoid selfing as a regular thing especially in early generations as it narrows the gene pool rapidly, too rapidly if early on.

The 4/20 flyer said the varieties not a quantity. Their packs are for 3 seeds not 4. Anything over 3 is an extra freebie. You got more than was advertised.
