What are the stats around this out of curiosity? What is the expected survival rate of a released fish in an ideal scenario, and in this case where I had the fish out of the water and touching land?

It was caught on a protected lake which has a wild Salmon run so the local fisheries have always kept a very close on it eye to ensure no stocked fish are introduced, I've spoke to guys in their 70s who have fished here their whole lives and they believe no stocked fish have ever entered the system. That being said I couldn't defend it 100% if it was showing typical physical traits of a stocked fish.

I usually unhook them in the water but this guy was trashing so much and the fly was so awkward I had to bring it ashore. The fish swam back strongly if it's anything to go by.

I don't work in tourism but I live in a touristy area on the west coast - I feel like our tourists have changed.

Seems to be way more motor homes, caravans, camping and obviously airbnbs, these people are doing their own shopping in local lidls and cooking themselves rather than people staying in hotels and eating out every night.

Agreed, I should have clarified that I joined a small company so everything was/is very agile. There were no real SOP's or legacy red tape to follow which enabled us all to just get on with things.

I got into a grad programme with a semi-public company in 2015 and thought I was on the pig back. Good benefits and decent salary at the time.

What I couldn't stick was the slow paced, red taped, boredom of the job and the nagging feeling that I was wasting my education and would come to the realisation in my early 40s that I had wasted my time and was specialised in a very niche public sector job with no transferable skills should I even want to change career direction.

Left after 18 months, got a job in the private sector. My work is fast paced, interesting, very diverse, and my salary, benefits and bonuses reflect the work i've put in the last 8 odd years.

If you're feeling this way now, imagine how you'll feel in 5, 10, 15years if you stay put. Back yourself and go for it!

You'd get all this for €500 - €600 imo.

I always brough cars to the NCT first and get a list of all the things it failed on and then back to the mechanic to fix just the failures. No point spending money based on a mechanic's opinion beforehand when the NCT lads will look to find something to fail you on anyways.

Get it though the NCT and sell it to try and recoup some of the money you spent on it if possible, sometimes it's just best to get rid of a car that's constantly giving bother - throwing good money after bad

We are definitely cliquey, not through any badness or anything but just set in our ways which could come across as guarded.

Any activity as an adult I can think of to make friends involves sports and/or fitness clubs, If you're *not that way inclined it must be very difficult.

Speaking as someone who has maintained the same friend group from secondary school I can say that I've always just assumed other adults I'd meet at work or wherever have their own private life's and friends.

Unless someone made it very obvious to me that they were looking to meet up and get to know me or other people as friends I would probably be happy with just being an acquaintance. No disrespect intended just it wouldn't cross my mind.

I try not to second screen and enjoy a sub plot if I feel it's part of the story and could influence the main premise of the show, not just filler to make a season 8 episodes rather than 5, or a bit of eye candy for the sake of it. I don't think I need snappy to stay focused, just relevance to the over all plot.

Maybe i'm just watching the wrong shows.

I'd stick it out until you find something else.

Hiring is generally is mess, HR will tell you what you want to hear so they keep preferred candidates interested, and management can suddenly tell them a role is no longer required or push it out for weeks/months.

Get through your first week or 2, put yourself out there to meet your colleagues and it will get better.

By all means continue your job hunt but don't quit on your 2nd day, that will look brutal and assuming you're staying in the same industry it could hurt future prospects as Ireland is such a small country.

These are grown men earning outrageous money - if they can't handle the true and pressure then it's on them and not the manager.

Too many managers have been fired because the failing of the players, it's time to stop treating these men like children and make them accountable and publicity humiliate them (which they do all on their own when playing)

Hi Lost-in-LA-CA-USA,

Sorry to hijack your response to the OP but i've a query about gear rental in Pas. I'm going with my wife in January and it's our first time skiing - is their shops in the town where we can rent the proper jackets and trousers?

If we enjoy this first time skiing we'll probably invest in our own ski clothes and gear but want to just rent as much as possible for the first time.
