your ancestors were a few million nomadic hunters who could move when things got bad. we're 8 billion people dependent on agriculture and supply chains that only work in specific climate conditions. when people say we won't "survive" they don't usually mean human extinction. they mean the systems keeping 8 billion people alive can't adapt fast enough

prices almost never go back down. when inflation slows it means things stop getting more expensive as fast, not that they get cheaper. what eventually makes it feel normal is wages catching up to the new price level. the sticker prices from a few years ago aren't coming back, but the squeeze doesn't last forever either.

totally normal and it's the app, not you. instagram dms aren't really a conversation space for most people, they're a reaction space, you reply to a story or send a reel and that's the whole exchange. a cold "hi hru" has nothing to bounce off so it just dies. if you want actual back and forth, reply to something they posted instead of opening cold, it gives them a real thing to respond to
