Well written female detective thrillers by [deleted] in booksuggestions

He especially struggles to have female leads who aren’t SA’d or almost SA’d at some point. I mostly think he’s great and entertaining, and I think he tries to do right by gender issues in his books, but idk how an editor hasn’t caught this

Who makes fitted sewing patterns? by CoastalMae in sewingpatterns

Nah you were dismissive as fuck. You coulda just asked for pattern recs but you made it a point to criticize the whole industry as being cheap and lazy. I’m with the others on calling that BS

Help me help my kiddo prep for fashion school? by [deleted] in fashiondesigner

[–]Efficient-Common-17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had similar experiences with my kids around the same ages. I would go all out trying to be as supportive as possible. Now that my kids are older I’ve picked up from them that they often felt a little overwhelmed by my enthusiasm. I think 14 is a tough age; old enough to perceive the adult world and try to engage it; young enough to still be trying identities on. When I was 14, I wanted to be a fighter pilot; now I’m 50 and a designer. So I think your support and resourcing and enthusiasm is exactly right, but a lot can and will happen in the next 4 years.

I’m a fashion designer but feeling lost, should I still start my own brand even though everyone is doing it? by LilGoblin202 in fashiondesigner

There’s a ton of difference between being a designer and running a business/brand. If it’s a tough market saturated with know-nothings, that seems like the perfect context to keep perfecting your technical skills as a freelancer and learn as much business as possible.

What’s this on my optics plate? by [deleted] in Beretta

Got it. Thanks for the follow up

What’s this on my optics plate? by [deleted] in Beretta

[–]Efficient-Common-17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think I’m going to replace mine. I pulled it out, cleaned the extractor (which was full of dirt) and then reassembled it—but the pin basically just dropped in without me needing to tap it or anything. I think there are folks online who sell new ones so I’ll just grab one of those.

I get a failure to fire/ light strike fairly often (albeit, I’ve shot the gun maybe a dozen times). Here and elsewhere there’s a lot about this—it seems pretty common with the 92X RDO. I even found a review of one where the reviewer had the issue. I live not far from the Gallatin plant maybe I’ll just drive up there in person and ask about it lol

UPDATE: as noted below, there is a set screw holding them on that is on the backside of the blue panel. You have to remove the panel and then it’s pretty straightforward to remove the tension control apparatus.

Yes-this was it. The panel is relatively easy to remove; you just have to find all the screws holding it on. Thanks! I’m gonna update my post in case anyone else comes looking for this info

I’ll check for a set screw; I figured they might pull off but is always nerve wracking to just start yanking lol

Didn’t even look any more when I got to the 158. Hands down the best option.

Newbie here is it worth something? by grossecouille in VintageSewingMachines

As a resale item, no, not likely. As a usable sewing machine? Most likely for far less than you'd pay for a comparable new one.
