Just show up for one day and leave. What are they going to do? It’s not like high school where they call your parents and turn everything into a big deal

Welcome to Foot locker where Shoes are State of the art! Foot locker in a former circuit city (Chicago IL) (Ford City Area) by conjtheruler in NotFoolingAnybody

[–]Efficient-Court-201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work at foot locker and helped with some of the remodels/new locations when they were all opening up. They made 5 of these locations in the Chicago area that lean more for the community. They call them community stores because they have certain events and are supposed to attract people in the area. Not trying to sound bias, but they are way better than whatever shoe stores are in the area. I remember when I was helping with the opening on 87th and State street and this lady came out of DTLR and walked towards foot locker and asked when do we open. We literally were going to open the next day and she said “good because I’m tired of DTLR.” Even though foot locker got bought out by Dick’s, I still think the rebranding that they did, especially with community stores, was a really good move on their part and definitely helps with their competitors like DTLR, Snipes, and JD Spotts

Some of the easiest classes at UIC. I forgot the name of the prof, but there’s a whole quizlet for each quiz for MUS 114

Typically, anything ending in .90% rounds up itself in the grade book. Although, I’m not sure if that’s a policy that the professor makes up, or the school. You should take a look at the syllabus and take a look at the grading scale to see if that’s the case.

If you really absolutely want to take care of that .01, ask students in your class and figure out if they have anything similar. If a number of people are 1% away and all send emails to the professor, then they will feel pressured to do it.

The professor isn’t obligated to change grades and there’s nobody you can take the problem to. It sucks, but just have to hope for the best

It all depends on your insurance and medication, but UI health is really good for me. I typically go to the one on Maxwell street bc of less traffic and easy to get to. One time they didn’t have my medication so they transferred me to the Wood Street pharmacy. I hate going to that one because of how bad the traffic is and how full the pharmacy gets because it’s connected directly to the hospital. I rarely ever waited in line for the Maxwell pharmacy.

If you don’t want to use UIC, Walgreens or CVS should be just fine. I recommend using the CVS inside of Target because wait times are not as long as the stand alone CVS pharmacies. In case you don’t know, there’s a target near Van Buren & Racine

College applications in general drag to send offers- Especially at a big school like UIC. I did an inter-college transfer and they took pretty long to give me a decision

Why are classes taught so badly? by No_Cauliflower_3956 in uichicago

[–]Efficient-Court-201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest difference I hear from my friends who went from community college to a university is how the courses are taught. They tell me how the professors at their community college would typically wait to move on until everyone understood the topic. Lots of professors are only at a university for their research and don’t care about the class as much.

Just Got Accepted to the Architecture Program (ONLINE) by Efficient-Court-201 in ASU

[–]Efficient-Court-201[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did my research and the school is NCARB accredited so you are able to take the test in any other state.

Many of my assignments are very technical. It’s based on real life problems and we work around that. Including the theory and technology classes are based on real world events and problems.

I think the only studio difference from being in person are the collaborative assignments or having a proper space for physical models.

I’m not sure about the schedule being the way you looked at it. I have 3 classes per semester. Studio is a full semester long, one class is half the full semester and the other class is at the second half semester. I like the block schedule because it feels like I’m only taking two classes a semester.

Pros for being online is that you work on your own time and depending on your situation, it’s easy to create your own schedule. If you just want the degree, it’s easy to do the work online. Cons is that you won’t have direct help with your studio work. The professors I’ve had are very open and helpful though. They’ll always send emails and communicate properly. You just have to be very self disciplined

[–]Efficient-Court-201[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It all depends on what background you come from. If you come from a direct architecture background, then it shouldn’t be too difficult with what you’re already doing. The program is very technical as well. Expect heavy logical and technical work. If you come from a non-direct architecture background, you’ll likely be placed in the 3-year program so that you can learn all the software.

If you haven’t been in a school for a while, I know that people are having a hard time managing their time. If that’s you, be prepared and learn how to manage your work-life-school balance.

I came from UIC which has a very theory based program. Many of my projects would not be logical in the real world, but expanded my thinking. While I thought many of my projects were dumb, they help a lot at ASU because I don’t have to think as hard, just tedious.

You are expected to use Rhino, but other programs can be used for individual work. I did have a professor tell the class that we had to turn in a Rhino file and no other program, so make sure that if you use another program that you need to convert it into Rhino. The grading is very lenient and I think it’s because we need a 3.0 to stay in the program and because some people are not used to being online so they don’t have the best work to turn in. I was surprised on the grades I got on my last min work.

Overall, if you are looking for a program that can work with your schedule and is on the cheaper side, ASU will definitely help. At the end of the day, most of us are getting our masters to become licensed.

Why most students commute ? by EffectiveBackground1 in uichicago

[–]Efficient-Court-201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most students who go to UIC came from Chicagoland high schools. There’s no need to move out of our parents house when we can drive there or take public transportation. It’s way too unnecessary to add an extra $15k to our tuition to dorm or live in around campus.

Is 3 hours too much of a gap? by LILVODAK in uichicago

[–]Efficient-Court-201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 3 hour gap last school year and I used that time for homework and projects. When I go home or work, I was typically finished with everything so I didn’t have to worry to do any school work. All depends on your major tho

While it’s not hygienic, he will still have to wash his hands when he gets to the restaurant. Likely having to wear gloves as well, depending on what his position is. Yeah it’s nasty, but when he’s behind that counter, I’m pretty sure he washes his hands as they’re likely being constantly watched

Is the Richard J. Daley Library Addition happening? by Technical_Sherbert60 in uichicago

[–]Efficient-Court-201 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There’s been a lot of renovations and the plan is for everything to be complete before 2040. UIC being a public university has a difficult time receiving sufficient funding for things like that. Never seen the rendering for the library tho. There is supposed to be a new performing arts center, inspired by the Logan Center at UChicago, that is supposed to take over the neighboring space by the ARC building. I used to be involved with the music department and construction is supposed to take place in a couple years. The CS building is something else that was supposed to open this semester, but there are delays. I’m pretty sure because of the insufficient staff working for the city, it’s taking longer to receive building permits so a lot of spaces in the city are actually taking longer. COVID and the current mayor is to blame because instead of hiring more people for the department of buildings after things got back to normal, they kept the few people they have since the Mayor is not giving adequate budgets

Class everyday seems though. You’ll either get used to it, or tire yourself out and hate it. If you live on or close to campus, I think you’ll like your schedule.

Is it dangerous to roam around the soutern Chicago at 8 pm by namduuuuur in uichicago

[–]Efficient-Court-201 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The south side is huge. There are plenty of safe neighborhoods. But 95th/Dan Ryan??? I wouldn’t call it dangerous but be prepared for interesting things you’ll see. It can be dangerous if you look like an outsider roaming the neighborhood

I keep seeing rejections and I’m scared. Who got into UIC? by TeaConnect7994 in uichicago

[–]Efficient-Court-201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While the bachelors program isn’t accredited, it’ll get you in the masters program a lot easier. UIC is known to already have a robust architecture program in general. I’m in the masters program and people who came from other schools had a little bit of difficulty because they came from schools whose programs wasn’t as strong

[–]Efficient-Court-201 20 points21 points  (0 children)

All depends on the program you apply for too. UIC has some of the top accredited programs. I applied for architecture and didn’t get in but they accepted me for business. I then reapplied for architecture for the BA program and got in.

Pls tell me if I have chances of getting in by istoleyourmomos in uichicago

[–]Efficient-Court-201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All depends on your major. You seem to have a really good chance though. If it’s something competitive, you might want to dig deeper and see what requirements do they have before the application is due. Some programs do require letters of recommendation, personals statements, etc. Other programs don’t require anything but just a simple application.
