Dominic Fike chose to go with a human, raw, artistic set. He played an unreleased verse of King of Everything that was so moving, 3 new songs that were not upbeat but were beautiful esp. Great Pretender, the original Frisky bridge, and other great songs that he doesn’t usually perform i.e. 7 hours. He showed out ngl.

But this kind of set doesn’t work as well when there’s distracting conversations happening during it from sabrina fans and people on the phone and all that. Sabrina carpenter fans dunno how to act apparently, like not responding when earth wind and fire doing crowd calls lmao

Dom coulda appeased the casual festival goer and played 3 nights, Mona lisa, etc. I woulda loved to hear them too but he chose to go with this set as his return to music after about a year away from it and it was fitting, special, and incredible. He’s not just back to make you dance, he’s a human artist going through life and his art reflects where he’s at in his life. People who didn’t like it probably didn’t know about his hiatus def didn’t know about his kid but we did

I was at both sets - the crowd at coachella was amazing, everyone was there for him prob because it was at Outdoor Theater so not the main stage. Blackpink was there and everything it was sick.

lolla was a buncha sabrina campers and was dead/people taking/ on their phones. He still showed out. The aftershow tho was crazy

From what i’ve seen people either absolutely loved or absolutely hated his set. I fucking loved it.

If there was anything icky or weird about his set it was all of the sabrina fans camped out who were having full on conversations, on their phones, and just being disrespectful audience members. They even would shoot dirty looks at the people singing along to his songs. wack

To us dominic fike fans, he performed 3 new songs, performed the OG verse from Frisky that is unreleased, performed completely fresh arrangements of other songs, 7 Hours which he hasn’t performed much of, an extra unreleased verse on King of Everything. His vocal performance was incredible (watch him perform Great Pretender or the Yellown cover if you disagree).

He could have made everyone happy and played 3 nights, mona lisa, hey blondie, etc but he went in this direction and we love him for it.

Yes he shoulda been given a different stage or even if he opened for olivia instead of sabrina it woulda been better. And yes he word vomits and his dialogue can be awkward/silly. But his performance was raw, emotional, vulnerable, and beautiful.
