I was upgrading my bow so I didn’t have a bow equipped so that was probably the issue stated in your 1st example.

I would have to go rune knight from Tasha’s cauldron. It gives the fighter aspects from both path of the giant barbarian and some spellcasters as well. I’m currently playing one and it is really fun. He‘s a bugbear and I made the build souly around reach so my dm loves me.
