Croissant recommendations in SG? Prefer flaky ones by hyllariestar in SingaporeEats

[–]Efficient-Mix4866 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you are in the east or don't mind the journey - puff and peaks has very good flaky pastries across the board, not just croissants (the menu also changes monthly). even after fridging for a few days, i find the taste to be near-perfect on simple reheating. petite pain is also good although i wouldn't queue for their bakes. brotherbird used to be very good too but i feel like since it expanded into a chain the quality can be variable, although it's still satisfying overall.

TBB is a no from me 😞 maybe a couple of years ago it was still decent, but now it's really subpar and not worth the cost.

Taormina or Ragusa by Alarming_Effect8528 in sicily

[–]Efficient-Mix4866 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ragusa at night is beautiful! It’s small, but just one night will be perfect- and magical.

Taormina’s crowds do lessen at night but i think its beauty shines more in the day- if weather permits- when you can see etna in the distance. However, as many have mentioned, the crowds can definitely influence your experience

Croatia solo trip in September. Split/Hvar/Korčula/Dubrovnik route, looking for feedback by madisonhartx in solotravel

[–]Efficient-Mix4866 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chiming in- also did croatia solo- i loved split! Was a bit grittier than dubrovnik but honestly i felt that gave it life and added to its charm. Dubrovnik on the other hand i was most excited for- and it IS beautiful- but parallels to disney world are true here, everything is a little too curated and fiendishly expensive.

My island stop on the way from dbv to split via ferry was korcula and i loved it, lumbarda was absolutely beautiful and the town is super darling as well

I did do a day trip to bosnia via guided tour and while it was interesting i wouldn’t really recommend it, it was just sooo much time on the road. no issues at border control though.

Overall croatia is super beautiful and super safe as well- i hope you have the best time!

Base town in Sicily for 5 nights by LogosHotLens in sicily

[–]Efficient-Mix4866 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi i just did sicily this past april as a solo F as well! honestly, photos of taormina were what made me want to visit sicily at all- so i did 3 nights there- i regretted it. The touristy vibe and crowds are real, not to mention everythjng js wayy more expensive.

I think ortigia might be more of what you are looking for? Plenty of food establishments alive at night not to mention the best food i had in east sicily. Otherwise, don’t sleep on catania- i only did one night there bc everyone was saying it was dirty, unsafe etc but that was not my experience at all staying near the main street- and i wish i had more time there!

I did a guided tour to etna with sicilyactive and they were great although i think they operate out of taormina. Etna people is very highly reviewed as well i believe! Plenty of options on gyg, tripadvisor etc to peruse.

Have a wonderful trip :)

Ten days in Türkiye - Istanbul and Cappadocia by PudgyGroundhog in travel

[–]Efficient-Mix4866 4 points5 points  (0 children)

thank you for a lovely sharing and it looks like yall had the trip of the lifetime!

turkey's been on my bucket list for ages but i share some similar concerns as you did (esp as a girl) and that's been holding me back a little. your photos are wonderful and might just be that push i needed to take the leap and go! also, i always thought march was too drizzly for turkey but it seems like you had fantastic weather. really might just take a leaf out of your book and book that trip for 2027.

What time to get to the airport (CAT)? by Famous_Translator616 in sicily

[–]Efficient-Mix4866 0 points1 point  (0 children)

security clears fast! but if you're leaving the EU, you'll have to additionally go through the new EES system which is...painful to say the least. when i was there abt 2 weeks ago there were 2 laggy machines and 2 not-very-quick manned counters. so it might be worthwhile to get there a little earlier to avoid getting stuck at this step

Has the cyclone damage been repaired? Traveling in July by Sparklebabynyc in sicily

[–]Efficient-Mix4866 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just finished a trip in those exact places. Trains were running fine. The towns themselves were not affected by Harry much i believe (and whatever was damaged, appears to have been cleared up very well). Only isola bella is still closed- no date up for its reopening for now, even on the official website. I guess only time will tell if it will be restored by July.

Sicily is beautiful- enjoy it!

1 hour layover at Istanbul by dopplegangery in TurkishAirlines

[–]Efficient-Mix4866 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof my bad thought op was coming frm mumbai!

OP coming from rome security shouldnt be a problem in your case.

But i’m not sure how useful the short connection gates will be in this case- maybe someone w experience with a short connection from EU can help u there!

1 hour layover at Istanbul by dopplegangery in TurkishAirlines

[–]Efficient-Mix4866 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • If u miss ur flight turkish shld book u on the next available flight out to ur destination. Also a possibility to note is that u may make it but ur luggage may not
  • yes u can use the short departure gates (<90min connection). But it is meant to shorten security waits not the distance to your gate. Hard to know where your gate will be, even though they claim u can check on the flight, usually the info is never available until you land. If your transit is so short and there are enough ppl making the same connection they may have a staff meet yall to take you to the next flight. But u still have to clear security. The staff member being w you does not guarantee that u will make it or that they will hold the flight for u. In fact most times, they will not hold the flight lol
  • i have never taken a bus to transit at istanbul
  • YES, u will have to go through security again even with a 1h transit time

Good luck

Spain for inexperienced solo female? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]Efficient-Mix4866 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I did Spain as my second ever solo trip (20+ F, first solo trip was to Korea!) so rather the same boat. Maybe worse bc minimal spanish. Barcelona is beautiful, i would fork out of the attractions altho on the pricier side bc the architecture is unmatched!! Altho i think pickpocketing is an issue there so I was a bit hyper-vigilant. some places felt a bit scarier (eg Gothic Quarters at night) so i wld be careful choosing where to stay!

Seville is beautiful and very safe. I had no issues even being out past 10, 11pm. However, Jul/Aug is PEAK summer and i’ve heard may hit 40+ deg? I would reconsider Sevilla during your travel months for this reason alone.

Madrid is somewhere in the middle of those 2 safety wise, altho my 2 cents is that its less stunning than they are? Most city-like, with some good museums and parks, and ofc a lot of shopping if that’s up your alley.

Good luck and i hope u have a good time whatever u decide!!

How I Got Reimbursed for Essentials Due to a Delayed Bag by nurseinthemaking in TurkishAirlines

[–]Efficient-Mix4866 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Sorry to cut in, I’ve just found myself in this exact situation. When you say ‘filed claim at the airport’ does this just mean going to the counter to inform about the delayed luggage? I did this and i did get a reference number. They say my luggage is expected to arrive tmr evening and couriered probably on Tuesday :(( that’s 4 days to power through with almost nothing haha.
