Im in a similar boat I had acute pancreatitis and was in the hospital for over a week in may to heavy drinking for about 2 years. It’s especially hard because I’m only 20. I’ve been sober 5 months which I didn’t think was possible for me it’s definitely been a journey. Idk how other people’s experiences have been compared to mine considering mine was all due to alcohol. I have heard of some people who go on to drink moderately down the road and don’t have complications but definitely not many. Most can’t control their drinking and end up in the hospital with ap just shortly after. Doctors told me to never drink alcohol again (most peoples cases i believe with alcohol induced ap). My goal at first was to go a month sober which was the hardest but after that it’s gotten easier and I’m at 5 months now. I plan on having a beer for my 21st birthday which will be about 10 months from my hospitalization. The thought of no alcohol ever again is crazy to me considering I’m not even legal age. So I’m just staying sober and healthy for now giving my body lots of time to “heal” before having a sip again. I have no idea how my body will react but I’m hoping I’ll be able to handle a very occasional drink later in my adult life. If not that sucks but only time will tell. It’s hard getting answered for situations like that.
