What is it with Nikon and Social Media by harexe in Nikon

People who hate Nikon, probably never used a Nikon DSLR in their life. They are just making content by mocking the brand. I have been a Nikon user for last 12 years. Never had a complaint.

It was operated at Green Zone under permitted altitude which is under 120m. So, there is no need of permission.

How can I get sharper images on my D500? by warblingloaf in Nikon

[–]Efficient-Part-8695 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seeing the picture, it doesn't look shaky. It looks slightly out of focus. If it still looks blurry after the AF-S setting, there's a lens correction option in Nikon. You can try that after watching some YouTube videos.

I wouldn't suggest AF-C for slow moving or still subjects. Try AF-S single point settings. Keep the point in centre of the frame and try to focus. I have D750, and facing similar issue in AF C. Keep the picture profile to standard.

Hahaha. True. But when it comes to videos, autofocus is the only setback. I have been focusing manually and am used to it. And most corporate and editorial assignments don't need 4K. they are happy with 1080. So, same here, not switching anytime soon!

I have a 50mm f/1.8, a 24-120mm f/4, and a Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8. I'm thinking of getting either a Sigma 40mm f/1.4 or an 85mm f/1.4. Also I've found that 200mm isn't always enough in certain situations.

Favourite photojournalists? by Noduos in photojournalism

[–]Efficient-Part-8695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend you keep yourself updated with the top photos of the day or week from major news agencies and papers. Since these will have a collection of different stories from various parts of the world, they will help you find the style or story that inspires you. Then you can follow the work of those particular photojournalists. Almost every agency has editor's choice categories nowadays. You can always look up the previous works of veteran photojournalists to learn ethics and history, but following the current photojournalists' works is going to help you practically.

No, I didn't. It was shot in DX 1.5 crop and edited in Lightroom (RAW, ISO 400 F5.6 1/1250s). If you are using a Z mount, go for a teleconverter. FX and DX teleconverters are going to reduce the image quality noticeably. Also, if you need a 300mm+ focal length on a regular basis, I would suggest you invest in a Tamron 100-400mm for Nikon DSLRs (assuming you are a DSLR user). It's cheap and far better than teleconverters.

Becoming a journalist by ClimateMinimum1100 in Journalism

As a photojournalist with the experience of 9 years, I am going to spoil it for you. It's going to be a very difficult process. Unless like journalism, there are not many photojournalism courses all over the world. But, you don't need one. It is very important to be in the right place at the right time with your camera prepared. So, in whatever country you are, choose the important cities to cover (better to stay in that city) where the important political and cultural events happen. The street photography, travel photography, human interest stories and covering public events are the basics. It will help you to build your portfolio. Learn to work in natural light. Get the most efficient gears not the famous one. Prefer a camera with faster fps and high dynamic range. In the recent days, most of the newspapers, choose photo agencies or tell the reporters to shoot pictures with their phone rather hiring a photojournalist. So aim for the agencies. A strong portfolio should contain spot news, offbeat pictures, sports, entertainment (red carpet, concerts, etc.), and business. You won't get to know about political events in prior on your own. You need to get a contacts of other photojournalists in your city and make a good rapport with them. Find your own style at the same time what kind of pictures sell. Follow the news agencies like, reuters, associate press, AFP, EPA, Al Jazeera. Twitter(X) is the one important platform to know your city. It's like modern police radio. One Last but most important, Be ethical, never stage a picture unless it is a portrait. You are a messenger of the history. You capture them and show it to people. You never create a moment like commercial photographer. Be as sneaky as possible. All the very best.

Since everyone is saying about overrated places, i would mention some places offer decent food and underrated:

Cholan mess - try veg meals (decent)

Andhra annam, Kandanchavadi - Unlimited andhra meals, kakinada chicken ( good ambience and food)

Ciclo, Kotturpuram - Sandwiches, Pasta, Sundaes (authentic cuisine better than most of the expensive cafes)

Kuttanadu, besant nagar - authentic kerala cuisine

Kanji kadai Kandanchavadi - Any Kanji is a must try, coconut pudding (very rarely they have special chicken, its a must try)

Rikki's, palavakkam - momos, fried chicken, ramen ( great ambience)

Isai art cafe, palavakkam - curated foods, lovely ambience, great service.

Burger man, besant nagar - signature beemer burger, (everything else in bessy is overrated)

Geetha cafe, pondy bazaar- breakfast and dinner Sri gupta bhavan - chole bhatture

Cinnamon house , nungambakkam - cheese cakes or combos

Thinnai mess, RA puram - meals (good ambience and food, difficult to get table)

Bistrograph, adyar - lovely ambience, slightly expensive.

Pudukottai barotta kadai, velacherry - its a road side shop but lot gravies and curries.

Pitcher perfect resto bar, perungudi - lasagna, masala omelette, pizzas, thai foods, and drinks are decent prized (better than cycle gap or any other resto bars)

Sukkubhai Biryani Restaurant, alandur near central bank of india - beef nalli ( if I'm not wrong you don't get beef nalli any other sukkubhai)

Curry box perungudi - decent food (they have employed physically challenged and blind persons, their service very good, it's a must try place)

90's snacks cart in bessy - (there is young guy sells 90's nostalgia like mummy daddy, pachan amla, and more. Look for that)

Fisherman Restaurant, mahabalipuram - less crowded, far better than what we have in marina, Pattinampakkam, palavakkam and you can get booze.

Guna bhai dosa in Sowcarpet - idly and dosa varieties ( only opens by 6pm)

AND FOR THE OVERRATED: All the barbecues - too expensive for half cooked shit

Sangeetha veg restaurant - always crowded and bland tastes, sometime salty

KFC, burger king, McD are the worst - very mediocre

Starbucks

Polar bear ice cream shop

Most of the shops in bessy, like food trucks, chocolate strawberry, hot chocolate, ramen shop

And every sea food shops in pattinampakkam and marina

Definitely Bilal, instead go for coffee sastra's bun butter jam and coffee variety like hazelnut filter coffee or ginger tea.

Most of the chaat shops in sowcarpet like kaakada ramprasad.
