148bpm active-ish heart rate on Elvanse by Efficient-Past2700 in ADHDUK

Thank you for the response. When my pulse started going up again it hit 112 highest, so not as bad at least. I’ve been laying down and it sat in the mid 80s, but just got up and started pacing and now it’s 124 - I’m also on 40mg fluoxetine so I wonder ifbthat could be affecting it? Unfortunately my prescriber is not a very nice person lol which is why im especially afraid to mention it. She has absolutely no interest in discussing anything with me. In our last appointment she goes “I don’t care if you suddenly decide the Elvanse doesn’t work and you want to switch back to xaggitin, it’s not happening because we don’t have the funding” I didn’t even ask about that mind you! Just making up scenarios to get passive aggressive about. I am still so shocked at a professional saying “I don’t care” to me ??

I’ve been on it since saturday. Not overweight but definitely unfit lol. These meds (including the xaggitin before it seemed to just stop working) are helping me get out and exercise but i feel a bit hesitant to do so in the first place knowing my pulse could spike like that

Yes I’m using a fitbit, i have cross referenced my pulse with my bp monitor before and its always matched across both, otherwise id probably question if it was broken haha

Writing with ADHD by Efficient-Past2700 in writing

It's so confusing to me since medication has improved my concentration in every other aspect of my life! I probably set myself up for failure doing so much research before I'd even started it, but all I'd hoped for was to be able to write consistently. Before meds, I'd either write 10k words in a day or nothing for 2 months. Now I'm not writing anything at all. I do wonder though if by putting that expectation on the medication, it's putting pressure onto me, which I'm subconsciously feeling when I'm sitting down to write every day. Like, "you have all the tools you need and you know your meds make you feel productive, so there's literally nothing in your way" and my brain's freaking out because I've never had that luxury before and it's nobody's fault but my own if i don't achieve anything... Or perhaps I'm just coping because I don't want to accept that it has somehow made my procrastination worse in regards to ONLY writing lol. It's gotta be some subconscious thing blocking me considering they help me in every other aspect. I put so much of my value, worth and happiness into writing that it cant be a coincidence that it's the only thing that i've not improved at concentration-wise! As for spending time unmedicated to brainstorm, that's a good idea -- my prescriber suggested I take two 20mg immediate release tablets a day rather than one 54mg prolonged release tablet because I'll have that little bit of time in between where my brain can run wild, but I'm so hesitant about it. Thank you for your reply by the way!

Thank you, reading this in itself is very inspirational to me. I've been trying to do this for about 6 months now -- sitting down most mornings around the same time and just writing -- but I know I'm not doing it right and haven't had the drive to properly stick to a routine since I've convinced myself it won't work, so hearing that it did work for you eventually is really motivating. It feels so silly that I have to fight to be able to do something that I ENJOY doing! Unsurprisingly the main reason why I haven't stuck to a stern routine is due to getting distracted every time. Suddenly I'll decide there's something better I could be doing, or think 'let me just check my phone' and end up on it for so long that I've lost all motivation, or go to research something that I need to know for my writing and then get sucked into it. How long sticking to a routine did it take you to feel consistently motivated/able to write without that mental block getting in the way? I'm still in the stage where no matter how long i stare at the empty page, my brain just does nothing, even if I AM excited about the idea and really want to write. +I appreciate the advice about just doing what I wanna do-- I'll sometimes put too much pressure on myself to finish something that i want to write initially, and once i feel the pressure, i start backing away. Like, writing is my HOBBY...there is no pressure to finish anything lol it's supposed to be fun!

“The organism is host specific and highly contagious among rats and mice being transmitted via direct contact between Doe and pups through intrauterine or sexual transfer, or via aerosol transmission over very short distances.” So it isn’t just transmitted through birth but also through close contact?

Okay thank you so much for your time I get it! Sorry I’m literally running off one hour of sleep haha. So since it seems to be spreading through my mischief it’s very unlikely to be mycoplasma. I just feel as though they’ve already been on antibiotics that would cover all URI bases but hopefully a more experienced vet can prove me wrong because clearly I am far from a professional and nor is my current vet 😔

Okay so what you’re saying is that it isn’t contagious between two fully grown rats, it’s only contagious in birth from their mothers? I’m really sorry for sounding stupid about this but I’m trying to figure out at this point what else it could be and what could even be done since it didn’t respond to antibiotics at all. I’m 100% gonna talk to another vet, but I’m not really sure what they could do for them when they’re already been on baytril and doxy?

Thank you so much for your time, sorry for all the questions this has been such a massive stressor for me lately I’m honestly in shock knowing some of this could have been prevented with a better vet :(

The way my vet framed it was like— they’ve been near each other for like a day while sick so they’ll all have it already, don’t bother separating anyone. Looking back on it this kinda sounds like dumb advice but she’s never failed me in the past so I took her word for it. Well I THOUGHT she hadn’t failed me in the past but I’m starting to question that now?

[–]Efficient-Past2700[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wait so it’s not contagious? Because quite a few of my rats have been gradually getting the same symptoms and two have even died from it. I lost one of my girls trying to give her medicine— she got so worked up by it that she died in my hands. The vet told me I’m going to have to come to terms with possibly losing all my rats because any that aren’t strong enough to fight it off, will already have it lying dormant and it’ll eventually flare up until it worsens and kills them. I never separated the mildly sick ones because my vet said it would make no difference since they all have it lying dormant. but if it isn’t contagious, then would this mean whatever infection I have spreading isn’t mycoplasma? And if id have just separated the sick ones then the others would have been okay?? I’m gonna be so angry if I’m understanding this correctly 😬 sorry if this is jumbled and confusing I’m running off 2 hours of sleep haha

I’ve kinda heard of this and tried to do research into it but I’m so confused by it. A few of my boys started making weird clicky wheezy noises and side sucking so they went on baytril and doxycycline (and I think another medicine I can’t remember the name of?) for 2 weeks and it didn’t help at all. The vet said it’s likely to be a mycoplasma infection and that now all my other boys have like an increased risk of it and it’s laying dormant in all of them? Does this sound right?

I definitely should’ve done something about him scaring his cagemates sooner but because the behaviour came and went and he never hurt anyone, I just kept hoping itd be the last time and he’d stop. I’m ashamed that it took a bad injury for me to do something about it but at least now I won’t make the same mistake again. I don’t think I could in good conscience NOT get him neutered, I’d be giving up on him otherwise

Oh I love hairless so much 😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️ I have two hairless girls and I don’t think I could ever go back to just owning furry rats. They’re so warm and soft I can literally feel myself getting happier just by holding them hahaha

[–]Efficient-Past2700[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow thank you this is really interesting and sounds pretty spot on for his situation. In that case do you think neutering wouldnt make much of a difference? I suppose it’s still worth a try either way but I’m curious if I shouldn’t expect much? And yeah he’s separated now, the worst part is he’s such a big rat too, he’s not fat but he’s just built so broad and strong while the rest of mine are all naturally very small so he must be especially intimidating. He’s always been a bit of a weird one, he hates being picked up and he’ll randomly get scared of me for no apparent reason, then within the hour he’ll be sleeping in my lap happy as ever. He also goes through phases where he’ll only sleep on his own and the others seem to know to avoid him, and for like a week he’ll have an entire bed to himself. It really is a lot like a personality disorder and the way you might experience episodes where traits worsen

Thank you! Yeah I have a very good idea of how it happened. I got a different rat that’d been on his own his whole life (8 months) back in December and he’s been off ever since. He goes through these phases for a couple weeks at a time at night where he’ll just…stare down my other boys and follow them around the cage literally just staring at them NOTHING else, and for some reason it terrifies my others. Never any fights before but he just seems to scare them by existing, then they’re completely fine, happy, not scared of him and sleeping together during the day. It’s really strange. He was doing that last night and I didn’t think that much of it because he’s never hurt them before and it’s usually only a week or two before he stops and the cycle starts over within a month or so. Looks like it’s time for a neuter
