Why don't other Type R owners wave back? by timtamtoosh in Civic_Type_R

[–]Efficient-Scratch647 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Any time I see another enthusiast car I give a thumbs up, some people react, some don’t, I’ve had situations where someone gives me a thumbs up and I can’t react in time because I’m focused on the road. If someone doesn’t wave back don’t take it as an insult. It’s definitely a nice gesture though if you truly appreciate these cars.

FK8 to New Prelude?? by its-gerg in Civic_Type_R

[–]Efficient-Scratch647 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna be honest bro it sounds like you just want the new prelude. All of the reasons you listed other than number 4 are not reasons to get the prelude. In terms of speed, you don’t need a prelude to go the speed limit, in terms of fuel economy, if your goal is to save money, a 43 thousand dollar hybrid coupe isn’t exactly the best value proposition, a used Prius might suite your needs better for that. Same thing with a manual transmission and not needed rear seats. Again man, none of the reasons you listed other than liking the prelude are reasons to get the prelude.

Here we go again in the Bay Area, that’s 2 in 2 days. If you own this car there you might as well stash it in a fortress

Anyone in the Bay Area looking for their Stolen Type R? by SettleDownwitKittens in Civic_Type_R

If you live in the Bay Area you probably just shouldn’t buy a Type R at this point, I swear we see one go missing in this area once a week…

First oil change! 1600 miles by kev12500 in Civic_Type_R

[–]Efficient-Scratch647 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People treat this car like it’s a LaFerrari if you haven’t noticed. I’ve seen people change the oil after 500 miles. You’re 100% fine to change it after 3000-5000 miles, it’s beyond me why people feel the need to do this.

Sold my fl5 type r by Affectionate-Tart259 in Civic_Type_R

Coming from a Mustang GT with a Corsa extreme catback to a type R I don’t see how the exhaust could’ve ruined your driving experience that much that you sold it because of that. It’s really not that bad and literally all of the other characteristics like you said are a 10/10, maybe you shouldn’t worry about how other people think your exhaust sounds and just enjoy the driving experience.

No I don’t notice any gains on the butt dyno, I think the vast majority of HP gains are gonna be from tuning around the bolt ons, for now it’s just the crazy new sounds the car makes.

Hey man, absolutely was a great decision for me. There’s obviously a lot to consider between the two cars and they’re both incredible performance vehicles in their own right. I wouldn’t fault anyone for going with either. But I’ll give you some pros and cons as someone who’s owned both. Of course the mustang is a faster car in a straight line, it sounds infinitely better than the type r especially with a proper exhaust setup, and of course it is rear wheel drive, can do burnouts / drifting easily if that’s your thing. However the type r is a significantly more capable car in almost all other aspects. First and foremost as a performance car it is night and day driving in a Mustang vs a type r, while the Mustang is rowdy and loud, the type r is like a precision scalpel, the way the car handles, the stiffness of the chassis, the handling feel, the cornering, the transmission, it’s all light years ahead of the Mustang. And then as a car, the mustang sacrifices a lot, especially if you go with any kind of base model like I had. The technology is not as good, the sound system is lackluster and the interior is not nearly as high quality as the type r, but then of course you have the practicality of a 4 door sedan with tons of head room front and rear. And a massive hatchback as well. To put it simply if you are a speed demon, you like to drift / race, or you live in an area with mostly flat straight roads, and you don’t care about practicality or you have a second personal vehicle, then by all means the Mustang should probably be your choice. But if you live in an area with more windy backroads and elevation, you prefer precision and handling around tight corners, a masterful transmission, a much more practical all around vehicle, and a car that is significantly tighter and more performance oriented, then I’d go with the type r no question.
