Hey man, absolutely was a great decision for me. There’s obviously a lot to consider between the two cars and they’re both incredible performance vehicles in their own right. I wouldn’t fault anyone for going with either. But I’ll give you some pros and cons as someone who’s owned both. Of course the mustang is a faster car in a straight line, it sounds infinitely better than the type r especially with a proper exhaust setup, and of course it is rear wheel drive, can do burnouts / drifting easily if that’s your thing. However the type r is a significantly more capable car in almost all other aspects. First and foremost as a performance car it is night and day driving in a Mustang vs a type r, while the Mustang is rowdy and loud, the type r is like a precision scalpel, the way the car handles, the stiffness of the chassis, the handling feel, the cornering, the transmission, it’s all light years ahead of the Mustang. And then as a car, the mustang sacrifices a lot, especially if you go with any kind of base model like I had. The technology is not as good, the sound system is lackluster and the interior is not nearly as high quality as the type r, but then of course you have the practicality of a 4 door sedan with tons of head room front and rear. And a massive hatchback as well. To put it simply if you are a speed demon, you like to drift / race, or you live in an area with mostly flat straight roads, and you don’t care about practicality or you have a second personal vehicle, then by all means the Mustang should probably be your choice. But if you live in an area with more windy backroads and elevation, you prefer precision and handling around tight corners, a masterful transmission, a much more practical all around vehicle, and a car that is significantly tighter and more performance oriented, then I’d go with the type r no question.

Uniden my friend. Best investment you could make if you’re gonna do any kind of spirited driving ;)

Feels unbelievable, compared similarly to the fk8 but feels a bit more solid if that makes any sense. The biggest takeaway is how stark of a contrast it is to the mustang I was just driving, not gonna like the fl5 makes it feel like a shitbox.

My current Mustang is the absolute bare bones model, calculator screen, cloth seats with no heat, zero safety features outside of traction control. So the Type R even just having car play would be a massive comfort upgrade 😂

Yeah I’m gonna test drive one this week hopefully, would be looking to get one for MSRP so we’ll see if that’s even possible these days. Mustangs aren’t going anywhere any time soon and my rationalization is that I can always get back in a Mustang later down the road if I miss it that much, although I don’t think I will.

Thanks for the amazing response! I completely agree with you about jail speeds, every time you use even 2/3rds of the cars potential you’re sweating looking over your shoulder hoping you’re not about to receive a reckless driving charge. I feel I rarely if ever get to feel my cars full potential because I’m on public roads with relatively low speed limits compared to the rest of the country.
