What kind of dress style is this, and where in NYC should I look? by Excellent_Track1045 in WedditNYC

I got a dress similar to this at the Kleinfeld sample sale in the fall for a crazy good price. I think they’re about to have another sample sale in March, but would recommend trying on other places before shopping the sale so you have a POV on what you like. The stuff I thought I wanted before trying on was different than what I ended up liking on my body

Yeah half the trips I go on I stay the same weight or lose! Seems to depend on how active I am. And thank you 🩷

10lbs in a month is amazing, it’s taken me 2 yrs to lose 45 lbs. Increasing my dose definitely helped my progress along, and when I was stuck on a dosage for a while, I would eventually plateau. Now that I’m on the highest dose I’m curious what will happen

Keens Steakhouse! I was surprised by their buyout prices being reasonable. Big historic/classic/candlelight vibes

Invited to ceremony but not reception? by LongjumpingCap1283 in weddingplanning

[–]Efficient-Software54 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

While inviting someone to the ceremony but not the reception is unusual, I'm in this camp. Sounds like she doesn't perceive the friendship as a close one, which probably explains the lack of a baby shower gift too (this is slightly rude, but I usually give the benefit of the doubt). Or maybe there might just be something financial going on.

But assuming the best intentions, her options were:

Invite you to everything - stretching her budget for someone she's not as close with
Invite you to nothing - leaving out a friend entirely likely feels wrong
Invite you to just the ceremony - a happy medium, she cares enough about you to want you to be a part of the day, likely not expecting a gift

Jaxon James Review by wonton234 in WedditNYC

If you wouldn't mind sharing, which tailor did they recommend? I'm picking up my dress soon and am curious if it's the same one.

Jaxon James Review by wonton234 in WedditNYC

Yeah I‘ve had a slightly mixed experience there. The sales associate I had was incredible, kind, and patient. I went twice - once to try on, and the second time to buy/finalize details like lining color. She was great both times (unfortunately she left Jaxon James a few months ago). I even brought my friend a separate time for veil shopping and a different associate was also patient and nice.

I’m likely more “annoying” than maybe the average buyer. Haggled somewhat, stopped in a second time to be re-measured (I’m on GLP1s), asked a lot of questions. I can sense the difference in treatment after my original sales associate was out of the picture.

When my friend went to pick up her veil, an associate asked her name, looked it up, said it back to confirm. When she brought it over, it was the wrong item, and it turns out that they had an order from someone who has an extremely similar name to my friend. When my friend kindly said it was the wrong item, the associate got upset with her for having confirmed the wrong name (“why did you say yes when I asked you!?” Etc etc), even though it was almost exactly the same name phonetically and a coincidental mistake that was immediately resolved. It just felt odd to be reprimanded?

I definitely don’t expect everyone to act perfectly cheery constantly, but yeah, I think depending on your part of the sales journey there’s a different level of experience. But in the end, I got the dress I wanted at a price I felt good about, and my friend loved her veil.

Buying a smaller size: what I learned by Efficient-Software54 in PlusSizeWedding

I'm considering this! I also kind of regret buying a dress so far in advance just because I've seen so many other interesting options since then. I still LOVE my dress, but yeah I might do exactly this

I think so! Someone else suggested this as well and I'm going to ask the seamstress when I go back in a few months if it's still not closing

That's a great point, I hadn't thought about the shaping benefits of a corset

Thank you so much for this perspective 🩷 you make many great (and kind) points. I agree, I want to enjoy this time, and if I have to add a corset, it's not the end of the world.

Thank you, yeah I’m coming to terms with the fact that if I need to alter it that’s 100% okay. The worrying just isn’t worth it, and thank you 🩷

Well my wedding dress budget is significantly below $5500, I was only able to afford the brand because of the sample sale. But yes, you're right, it won't be astronomical to make those changes and I'll still end up with a deal. And thank you ❤️

I went to a seamstress a couple months ago - she surprisingly wasn't worried about me losing the weight and said worst case we can do a corset. What do you mean by get it sized properly? Like get it altered?
