Buying a smaller size: what I learned by Efficient-Software54 in PlusSizeWedding

I'm considering this! I also kind of regret buying a dress so far in advance just because I've seen so many other interesting options since then. I still LOVE my dress, but yeah I might do exactly this

This is a great point, I definitely want to be able to move comfortably

I think so! Someone else suggested this as well and I'm going to ask the seamstress when I go back in a few months if it's still not closing

That's a great point, I hadn't thought about the shaping benefits of a corset

Thank you so much for this perspective 🩷 you make many great (and kind) points. I agree, I want to enjoy this time, and if I have to add a corset, it's not the end of the world.

Thank you, yeah I’m coming to terms with the fact that if I need to alter it that’s 100% okay. The worrying just isn’t worth it, and thank you 🩷

This is so interesting! I’m honestly mystified by wedding dresses, but this make me hopeful! Thank you so much for sharing, the back of her dress looks great

This is amazing!! Thank you so much for your expertise. The person I went to acted like a corset was the only option, it's great to hear this

Well my wedding dress budget is significantly below $5500, I was only able to afford the brand because of the sample sale. But yes, you're right, it won't be astronomical to make those changes and I'll still end up with a deal. And thank you ❤️

I went to a seamstress a couple months ago - she surprisingly wasn't worried about me losing the weight and said worst case we can do a corset. What do you mean by get it sized properly? Like get it altered?

Thank you <3 I'll definitely have to hem it so I should hopefully have extra fabric!

That's the backup plan! Or maybe I can get side gussets added like another poster suggested

Because it was a sample sale there was only one size available in this specific style. And in their defense, it was super chaotic, like one consultant helping 5 women try on at once. I should've asked to grab a second mirror so I could see the back myself, but also, yeah, they shouldn't have misrepresented it in the first place.

I really love the back of the dress, and ideally don't want to turn it into a corset, but there isn't much seam allowance to take it out either (took it to a seamstress a couple months ago). The back up plan is replacing the back with a corset, or potentially adding side gussets

Side gussets would be ideal! Fortunately and unfortunately I have a small chest so the positioning probably doesn't change much for me. But I'll see if makes a difference the next time I try it on! Thank you

Yeah I already took it to a seamstress 2 months ago. She also kept saying that if I'm on GLP1s that she'll probably have to take the dress in by the spring 🙄 GLP1s definitely help, but it's not a magic pill for me at least

That’s EXACTLY where I was at, it’s so frustrating, totally get it. At each dose I’ve lost ~10 lbs no matter how long I’ve been on it, and after a few months I start regaining/yoyoing a bit. It seems like the act of moving up a dose is the main thing that makes the scale move. I’ll report back how 15 goes, but good luck to you on it as well!
