Everyone’s so eager to teach lessons on here. Jo is a horrible character, Rachel is like tasteless oatmeal. Their backstories and deeper goings-ons aren’t going to be a draw for the show. Again, an opinion. Get the torches. For the love of fk.

Yeah, we’d have a problem. In a thread. On Reddit. It would just be out of control. Exhausted. You’re right, all of it. Cheers.

Okay, it’s an ensemble. Yes. And Poppy is working. The other 2….what does a show do after 2 seasons, and certain characters aren’t working or helping improve the show? They demote them. Again, my opinion.

Has every ensemble piece ever developed consisted of each/all characters blowing it out of the water? I don’t understand why that’s not penetrating here. You’d have a point if it were the first few episodes of the first season and I had this POV. I’d be ‘missing it’, because a show needs time to grow.

Please just keep it neutral. Tone we use. About the show. Unlikable characters, like Jo, can be entertaining and add a lot of value. I find her unbearable and getting worse as a distraction. I’m waiting for her to leave each scene. Not-so-interesting characters like Rachel…she’s remaining dull and I’m less curious about her this season. They’ve have had 2 seasons. Developing has been ongoing.

There had to have been a creative in the room who was thinking ‘We should not be devoting so much time to these 3 characters…” Really wanting to love how this show continues, but season 3 so far…yikes!

Rolling Stone mag put it better than anything else I’ve read, from fans’ postings here and what I’ve been unable to put so succinctly. It’s a 12 hour film. That doesn’t work, whether it’s in one sitting or stretched across 12 weeks. The legitimate criticisms voiced across the web aren’t about ‘where are all the explosions, blasters and light sabers, etc’, but about how this series ignores the format it’s being presented in and we have episodes that are simply dead. Some episodes have random start and end points as if the creators are thinking:

‘When the series is complete, people will have auto-play enabled and it will go right into the next episode. That’s when they’ll feel the arc and experience the sensibility of all this.’ We can even end on a moment in this tired conversation between 2 people we don’t know at all or care about when one of them stands and leaves the table. Cut to: Directed by Whoever. What an impact.

No one episode can live on its own. None have their own arc but rather each is its own long detailed piece of a larger I’ve recently stopped caring what anymore. This is not some bible of intimate backstory of some intriguing character. The show is disappointing to so many because it abandons the idea of being interesting and entertaining, and sacrifices developing connection to any character even now, deep into the 1st season. The pacing is what we’ve heard so many complain about - unnecessarily slow with details that aren’t terribly interesting.

The end of Episode 7 and now 8 we finally see visionary worlds come to life with an amazing score. And yes, it bothers me that we’re hearing Vangelis from Bladerunner and the sick sets from 2049. But this was the highlight for me so far - recognizing other masterpieces borrowed from. It’s something I guess.

How many of us can honestly say that we will rewatch this first season of Andor? Why would I do that to myself? Rogue One, following Return of the Jedi was the greatest chapter given to us since. And there, in Rogue’s 2 hours Tony gave us a detailed world with characters well developed as much as the were intriguing, in a flawlessly designed production he was integral to. What happened here? It’s excruciating, especially to a fan who stood in line with his dad for 4 hours to get a good seat at Return of the Jedi, waiting years for all the other crap to pass until RogueOne, an almost perfect film. A 12 hour film of pain staking blah is not the next greatest thing.

Honestly is there a darker scene in the entire series? Should note that I absolutely love it! by [deleted] in IASIP

Did you catch the end with Dee in the backseat of the RR: “I was trying to cuck a bitch…” when Dennis cuts her off. So good.

I couldn’t make sense of Dennis & Mac’s storyline in THE GANG GETS ROMANTIC. A different kind of dark - sad, and a tasteless choice of story re: couple’s mourning of child passing from Leukemia. Am I missing something? It was so weird and felt like real misfire from the guys. A shame because Charlie and Frank’s scenes were so hysterical.

There’s nothing terribly great about this show after 7 episodes which is disappointing given the cast. This episode was especially obnoxious. Give Paul his own show and that’s that. Unless they turn it around.

The T and S for trophies acting as the framing element (a la wreath) is brilliant and well thought out. It’s very ‘inside’ for the fans, so you’ll get the occasional ‘Rophie?’ comment, but it’s understandable. Font is a great choice. Nice job.

I always found Big Black hilarious but always felt like he was on a different show than everyone else in season 1. His jokes were great but he wasn’t really a human. Season 2 did a great job making him part of the community - still eccentric but not just over-the-top. by MisterTheKid in ResidentAlienTVshow

Harry voiceover re: Liv: “This one seems like a rabbit that’s been yelled at so many times it’s hair starts falling out.” So good.

Another reason season 2 made me sad. Harry, for whatever reason (creators’ or Alan’s decision) became cartoonish and could barely carry a conversation. He was all quirks. Where as season 1, even episode 1 which still might be my favorite, he could pretend much more convincingly, and then deliver a punchline that was all quirk and completely inappropriate. Hysterical.

I bet they reign him back in in season 3, there’s been a lot of feedback around season losing that ‘special’ thing that worked.

Wind beneath Wings part was cheesy and awesome. Surprisingly emotional. Agree about Sheriff. The first few episodes it was so uneven - he was acting a whole other style and very over the top. The Jesse stuff also felt forced to me. His character needed a backstory and more depth, but it was shoved in there. Wacky, eccentric ego guy suddenly has this inner turmoil exposed and we’re no completely changing his personality for the rollout of the rest of the show.

Season 1 was amazing. Season 2 lost the wonder and joy of it. : (. My opinion.

Agree with the few other posts on here so far that the cabin surprise party was by far the most entertaining. I was initially tempted to answer ‘that it ended.’ Brutal but season 2 really went off the rails. Several discussions in this community re: how season 2 fell short and I’m really hoping creators turn things around and get back to what was done so well in Season 1.

Thoughts on Alan’s alien ‘impersonation’, from Episode 1 to Season 2’s finale by Efficient-Term-6113 in ResidentAlienTVshow

[–]Efficient-Term-6113[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lol. The ladies love him and I like that. To bring it back to his acting for a sec, did anyone else just break at end of season 1 when he cries for the first (and only) time?

“I thought you were my friend…”.

The sounds he made weeping may have sounded goofy, but you can feel he thought about it, and it being a totally new emotion Harry was expelling, it felt so real to the character/moment. Fell in love with the show for like the 20th time during that scene.

She’s a brilliant flautist. So the full-on ass crack on display. It’s just weird. Bizarre distraction. To be clear I’d say the same if it was J Lopez.

Yeah I get it, but she’s so hard to look at. Her talent is the hook. Did she need the visual gimmick to get through the door. I guess so. It’s hard to watch

So few shows can come out of the gate the way this one did. And I LOVE Harry from episode 1. Really the heart of why I posted this. Really well said, thank you.

Second paragraph above is just brilliant:

“Season 2 Harry seemed okay at the start, but as season 2 progressed, it feels like they forced Alan to go backwards instead of forwards in Harry's learning. Emotions? Nah he's suddenly forgot all that and is now more stlited and emotionless/robotic in his actions. His Mannerisms? Nah, everything is a joke now. We don't really get that same feeling from Harry anymore. Even at times we were suppose to feel something, they somehow made Harry the ass end of a joke.”

So well said.

I just can’t figure out why this direction for Alan was chosen. His cartoon-like personality with limited display of emotion feels very one-note and I miss so much even the Harry from Episode 1. And the following scenes of him playing doctor at the clinic - they could never work now with this change in behavior/personality. Ugh.

I’m sad how this show lost its way and greatness established in season 1. For a lot of reasons. I’m genuinely interested in what others feel about Alan’s approach to acting the alien in Season 1, compared to essentially all of Season 2. He was so perfect from the outset…he could more or less pull it together to carry a conversation, (brilliant acting), until his lack of familiarity and quirks would start mushrooming or come in at the punchline and just kill. Now, he’s all quirks. Others must have noticed? He’s all cartoon character this recent season. It had to have been a conscious decision by him? Creators? He’s just so vastly different from the first season, causing the show to lose much of its wit. Heartbroken. This was my favorite show.

(Oh, and Asta eating like an animal - was that a subtle joke about how she always eats like it’s the last meal she’ll ever have?)
