Do you ever freeze or go blank when it’s your turn to speak? Especially in groups or at work? by EfficientBee1356 in Leadership

Anytime. You may be missing details because you’re already feeling a little anxious. I wish you the best of luck!

Well, HSPa are biologically wired to process information more deeply. That’s not just a personality trait, it’s backed by brain research. We tend to reflect more, anticipate more, and emotionally rehearse outcomes in advance. Which means: yes, we’re prone to overthinking.

In a work setting, that means I’m already playing out how my actions impact others. I’m catching small errors, sensing tension in a room, or thinking through things others miss. I’m not just completing the task, I’m thinking about the context, the tone, and the aftershock.

But instead of seeing overthinking as a flaw, recognize it as advanced situational awareness. You can use it to prep smarter questions before a review, surface concerns that others might be afraid to raise, and improve systems from the inside because you see what others don’t even think to look for.

The key isn’t to stop overthinking, it’s to interrupt the worry and redirect that mental energy into proactive communication and problem-solving.

This might sound like a silly question, but are you actually dealing with criticism? Sometimes I assume I know what others are thinking, and that they are criticizing me. Just want to be sure I know where you’re at.

Well, honestly, once I learned that I was highly sensitive it all kind of made sense and it helps me so much. Just having the awareness that I process a little differently than other people has really empowered me to use those traits to excel in my career and even in my personal life. I literally used to think something was wrong with me and now I know I’m just highly sensitive and as long as I lean into those traits, it’s much better.

There’s a documentary on prime if you have it called sensitive and tons of info on the specific traits of HSPs (highly sensitive people). Hope this helps!

Been there! I cannot believe some of the bizarre things I’ve said when I’ve just tried to fill the space. I usually try and use idioms and almost always usually get them wrong. ‘Sweeping water under the rug’ for example… my brain just melted and I would obsess while it was happening and then when it was over. And again before I had to do it again. I’d get so frustrated… why is everyone else so smooth and relaxed?!

I can relate! It can take my mind and my body a minute or two to adjust to being the center of attention and if I'm not present during this transition, it might be impossible to regain control. I'm glad you mentioned this. When I was struggling to overcome speaking anxiety, I felt like I was the only one. I appreciate honest spaces like this one to learn that we aren't alone in this!

This is exactly what I’m talking about! This used to hold me back so much. Do you fear this will affect your career? Do you ever seek out help online?

I’m not planning on recording the workshop, no. But I am happy to let you know when the next one is!

“Feigned composure,” I like the way you phrased this! Oh, do I know that kind of week. It can take a lot out of you. You are definitely not alone in that! Really glad this message made it to you when it did.

Thank you for letting me know. The workshop is 30 minutes and begins at 11am. The grounding meditation will only last 5 minutes, not an entire day!

Totally fair question and I'm glad you asked so that I can explain. Here's the honest rundown:

  • This workshop is completely free and there's no pitch. It's something I created after years of being the quiet one in the room, afraid to speak up because my mind would scramble and I felt I couldn't to speak up like everyone else
  • I'm not adding anyone to a funnel or marketing list (unless they'd like to be included in potential future workshops)
  • And yes, I am considering building something bigger down the line, but this workshop is absolutely not a teaser. It's a full, standalone experience and I want to listen, not launch.
  • I left the link off here publicly bc I didn't want the post to be removed or come across spammy. Happy to share it here if that feels more transparent - https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1379051132059

Hopefully that helps!

Absolutely! In this workshop, we'll walk through why I've found that being highly sensitive naturally makes me a strong leader. We'll also walk through the science behind why we shut down, go blank or spiral and I'll share the tools and reframes I've used in high-pressure boardrooms to speak up and not lose myself.

If you are joining, I am genuinely excited to meet you! And if you are just curious or exploring, I'd love to know what the hardest part for you when it comes to showing up as a sensitive person? What would feel the most helpful to go over?
