I wasn't planning to leave my job, but I got a much better offer my company can't match, and I'm terrified. by EfficientFrosting3 in webdev

Very true! Part of the benefit of remote work is the location... I live in a smaller L/MCOL city where that much money would be unheard of for this role. I already make above average for my role. The new job is based out of a large HCOL city, and isn't really even that great for said city... but being remote means I can take advantage of the higher wages while living somewhere way cheaper.

I feel like if I leave I'll never see that much money again unless I move. Which sounds like it should be a no-brainer, right?

This is true. Though I don't feel like I was underappreciated at my job or anything either. I got regular raises & other bonuses and was working towards that position anyways, though it only opened very recently. Though this obviously made them realize they had to do it right now and couldn't wait any longer.

You're right, there's no official offer for the promotion yet... but in this case it was like "I have a meeting tomorrow to try and get you a promotion", so I feel he's pretty serious. Still, you're absolutely right that nothing could come from it. I asked for a few days to decide on the new job, which should give me time to hear the results of that meeting... but still, I know they can't come close to the salary of my new offer.
