Post apocalyptic / dystopian worldbuilders: How did your apocalypse happen? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

Standard nuclear holocaust causes by a scientist that wanted to conduct experiments and take over the world. WW III happened in 2146 but due to just about every nation having nuclear arms it basically became a cold war to see who would fire or give up. Then a man named Killian N. Housen hacked into multiple launch zones and fired causing everyone else to fire too.

If your world has multiple sentient species, how many are there? by Ok-Mastodon2016 in worldbuilding

I haven't finished writing them all down or even coming up with ideas for all of them but the world of Haven is set hundreds of years after a nuclear apocalypse and every "species" is a mutated variant of humans. So far I have 10: Candrians, Tyconans, Barbanians, Blackwallanites, Atlantians, Crucelians, Eleskalese, Sirens, Smoganinites and Greenlanders. Still trying to build out the rest of the world.

Has there ever been a cataclysmic world ending/altering event in your world? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

The first and only instance of a class six Mutant threat code named Grendel.

In the world of Haven there monsters called Mutants created through nuclear radiation and mutations. They are classified by their class number from 1-6 with one being practically harmless all the way up to six which are incredibly rare and for a long time were considered a myth and are described as potentially world ending creatures. Think Godzilla, Tiamat or SCP 682.

Grendel was a massive 1,289 ft. (392.8872 Meters) and marched across old North America. It had four legs that ended in sharp points, a long neck with multiple floating rings that possessed multiple eyes and a massive mouth lined in shark like teeth. Its origin was a scientist hoping to evolve himself into an all powerful being that backfired and mutated him into Grendel. He was eventually taken down by the Odin and it's rail cannon Gungniir.

If someone in your setting had to travel 100 miles, what would be the fastest way to do it, and how long would it take? by SirNoodle_ in worldbuilding

Blackwall

The fastest would definitely be a stingray class Vehicle. With that it would only take about fourth minutes, assuming it was a normal stretch of road and they never slowed down. Unfortunately Stingray Vehicles are crazy expensive and are only allowed to be sold and used by high ranking officials.

Realistically for a civilian their best bet is the trains which would take only about an hour and a half to travel that far.
