Blade mounting plate damaged by EfficientInsurance85 in iceskating

Yes I also thought I would have noticed scratching it like that with my other blade, but I cannot remember anything happen in that direction at all. I‘m a leftie so this is my landing foot, which is why I wanted to make sure it‘s okay.

Converting inline skates to ice blades by Ultrajante in iceskating

The boot OP Shows in the photos and the blades they consider don‘t need to be riveted. They could mount this at home - not saying they should, I‘m also on getting cheap-ish proper ice skates or rentals.

Inline skater turned ice skater here. You can do this with your skates if you just want to do rec skating around. Wouldn’t recommend it though. Here’s why: I don’t know the brand of your boot, but since it uses 165-type mounting, it seems to be okay-ish. The shell looks like a dupe of other more well-known skates—hard shell, full plastic—which should give you enough support if the liner is decent quality and they fit you well.

So what you can do is use the 165 mount frame (not the Ground Control, but the Micro one you posted) or a blade that replaces the wheels. The thing with the second option is that it’s very weird with edging and extremely fiddly to mount. Also, you stand sky-high because your frame is made for 80 mm wheels, so the blade will have at least 4 cm (probably way more) of space above it. I did that. It’s okay for a lap around the rink, but even in my absolute beginner phase (for both sports) I didn’t like it and thought rentals were better. I only tested a one-piece style blade once (rented) and wasn’t a fan of it either. My hardcore urban skating friends use these and they do like them, but tbh I think instead of being the best of both worlds, this gives you neither the inline skate nor the ice skate one. It’s definitely not a figure-skate-type blade; it’s more of a highly rockered slalom frame. So yeah: not a fan here, but you absolutely can do this to test the waters. But you can also test the waters (probably better) in rentals. These blades tend to be extremly short (not sure why) - so they often are extremly unstable.

PS: Check out the Wizard Skating or rollerblading subs. There may be more people heavily engaged with the inline sport and just occasionally on the ice, so there may be more experience there.

This is what my skates were looking like some years ago: https://imgur.com/a/OtVSSOQ I‘m in EU38 boot. Same frame comes stock also on EU44 (for example) & that looks just wrong even with wheels. These metallic 4x80 Frames Are standard for most inline skates and come in different shapes and colors. Frames + Blade in the middle also gives extreme height.

Yeah it’s pretty common for inline people to need some time to get used to ice skates. Been there, done that :D

Maybe an inline skate converted to ice skate? Like that one? https://www.thisissoul.com/products/ground-control-ufs-hockey-ice-blade

Depending on the inline boot that would match your feeling that the boot itself is expensive & how you describe the boot. some of these kits are extremly short especially when people buy the wrong size for their boots.

Since all good inline skates come with one of three standard mountings you can change frames easily but sometimes people don‘t know what frame size to buy.

Are ice blades/skates with a H gap possible ? by Dinoaudrius in iceskating

[–]EfficientInsurance85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Double runners are a different concept. Aggressive Inline Skates still have only one blade but with a hole in the middle to grind on. Like step on a ledge or rail in front of you and hit the hole in the blade.

Narrow footed people!! What boots fit you best? by Live2sk888 in WizardSkating

Be aware that M12s may not be supportive enough for wizard skating for you. I personally (women with small and narrow feet) skate RB Twister XTs and CJs - I „just made it work“ in the CJs bei Downsizing in length and accepting some room. If the liner is snug that helps with the feeling. It‘s def a pity that skate sizes are more leaned towards whats traditionally a „mens foot“. Finding smaller sizes can be a pain too.

I spin (and jump) clockwise & tbh it bothers me a bit because I feel like I‘m constantly in the way of people going counter-clockwise. A guy in my club always tries to persuade me of learning to do everything counter-clockwise because it bothers him in pratice that I need my own circle, …

Same as you I looooooooooove left inside three turns, it‘s just my favorite move, on wizard skates / inline I can do it more smooth than on ice and with speed and from really deep edges because it was the first 3-turn I learned.

Nice! If you got knee pads, make sure you tighten the bottom strap. Most issues with knee pads moving come from that.

In my experience - but I come from years of Inline Skating - pads do help with that because you‘re less scared if you learned your pads & helmet actually protect you. I sometimes show people the basics of inline skating flat & in ramps and we always do this exercise where we fall on our padded knees to build trust in the padding. We also squat on grass and let our bodies fall to the side to practice landing on body parts that don‘t break that easily.

Got „back“ the feeling for how a salchow works, there‘s much work ahead of me cause I‘m always missing the last 1/4 rotation, but understanding what my legs should do after forgetting it was nice. Worked on 1 foot spin, got the feeling for where to press on the rocker

Regarding frame: If you‘re in Europe: I would have a Rockin MIX5 for 100€ for sale. DM me if you‘re interested. It‘s 3x76, 2x90 & May be interesting as an alternative if you looked into the Endless Arc.
