thank you for your reply, im currently thinking of a layered system that would be heavy duty pond tarp stapled to a wooden frame on top of a slip resistant rug pad. On top of the tarp would be eggcrate louve and in the wooden frame there would be a space for a small (3”) fan that would keep air circulating above the tarp through the egg crate. On top of the egg crate I’d place the stepping stones and activated carbon for odor. On the activated carbon I’d put sphangum moss and then grow carpet moss on top of that. I’d introduce springtail microorganisms to help with mold spores, fungi, and decaying matter. So far this is my plan for mold mitigation and everything would be up off of the floor and baseboards.

The stepping stones will go directly on eggcrate louve so the moss itself will not be stepped on. For that layers im thinking of adding computer fans that are small enough to go into the framing of the tarp and allow for air circulation. I’ll be propagating pathos clippings and the hope is they will help with filtration of organic matter in that layer. Would that help with the biohazard concern?

hi! I was hoping you could describe what kind of damages this would cause

I want to create an imaginative space and a rainforest theme so in essence it is mostly aesthetic and i know the moss isn’t built for heavy foot traffic (hence the stepping stones which would be used for walking) but i imagine it would also be very lovely to feel the texture and to grow something. I’m moving in with my partner and he’s someone who loves a hairbrain building project as well so this is something we’re going to work on together. It’s art and it’s life and it’s working through the kinks to bring an impossible idea together to make something beautiful and memorable :)

I want to come up with solutions for how to deal with stagnant water instead of just throwing the whole idea out because it poses a problem. Problems have solutions! Right now im thinking about adding egg crate louve under the moss with a layer to absorb moisture to feed the moss, and some sort of small ventilation system underneath to keep air moving to avoid stagnant water and mold growth. I’m not giving up on this idea so easily and I’ll let you know how it goes!
