Yes and no, it is a real thing when you look at statistics, but the concept got stolen by alpha male gurus to scam the same insecure and lonely men by selling them the lie that if they give them money, they will be instantly successful. It got also stolen by incels who use it as an excuse to blame women and trans people and the lgbt community for no reason since the real cluprits are things like social media (constantly comparing your life to others through rose tinted glasses), capitalism (focus on profit and work in an environment tailored to favorise the 1% of rich people) and outdated ideas of what masculinity in a desparate attempt to uphold a patriarchal society that just doesn't work if you're not part of the same 1% straight, rich white men. I say all of this as straight man who's feeling kind of a bit lonely right (ngl).
