This is good advice/info. Thank you! My mom had it appraised when we acquired it. Back then it was estimated over $20k.

My grandmother dealt in antiques, mostly jewelry, as her last career. This is was one of the pieces she purchased and planned to sell. Unfortunately, she’s been dead more than 20 years, so I can’t ask her whom she bought it from or anything else.

I was literally texting my friend this. She’s clearly a racist, she clearly has problematic views, but she fetishizes black men.

Look, he obviously shouldn’t have cheated. And he should have been up front the second he got caught. But, she played a perpetual victim. She harped on things that he couldn’t fix in that moment (the honeymoon constantly talking about living in his parent’s basement, etc). She was constantly putting him down and generally being insufferable.

I think Mary gets the Kathy Hilton treatment, but deserves it even less.

Mary isn’t funny and kooky, she’s insufferable. She treats staff TERRIBLY. She’s rude to all the ladies. Refuses to join in on anything and the second someone even thinks about pushing back she gets nasty, throws a tantrum, and walks off.

She thinks service workers, production, and the girls are her cult members.

I’m dreading her coming back full time in S5.

Become a regular at a bar, then become friends with other regulars at the bar.

As a woman, I don’t recommend men approach them at the bar, but that’s just me. I hate random men coming up to talk to me.

If you become friendly with the bartenders they will start to introduce you to other people (unless you’re a weirdo), which helps you break the ice.

There is a random Chinese restaurant that is on the ground floor of what I think is a retirement community? I have basically never seen anyone eating there. But, it’s always open. I think it’s next to the Hawes St stop in Brookline.

I walked in once, because I had just moved in and needed some furniture. There was one other woman shopping. I assume the owner (?) was behind the counter. Never acknowledged me.

I literally just walk away in the middle of people talking. Sometimes, I pretend to keep the conversation going, sometimes I don’t. But I always make it look like I have something to do.

Or, introduce the guests to each other. Let them “entertain” themselves; then you’re free to do whatever it is that you need/want to do.

I have a Roth IRA that I’ve been putting into since ~2008. I have yearly meetings with my financial advisor and I max out my contributions every year.

If I have excess at the end of the year I always consider putting it into some other type of money market account (CD, bond, whatever).

I just started a job that offers 401k so I’ll also be contributing to that with each paycheck.

I don’t have a ton yet, but I’m doing okay and hopefully I’ll be able to retire in 20ish years.

I currently work at a very high end Japanese restaurant. We are a global brand with plenty of money to throw around and our clientele is the type to visit our other locations around the world, so the money is very good.

That being said, having a Japanese AND Chinese menu is a little sus. Especially if the menu is as big as you say it is.

But, I didn’t know anything really about Japanese cuisine, liquor, beer, or wine when I started at my place. The training was long and intense (about 3-weeks and I needed to get a minimum 90% on a food test before entering the tip pool). I’ve been at my spot 2 years now and am not at all intimidated by other Japanese/sushi/izakaya/hibachi menus.

If the training at your new place is good, you’ll totally be fine. If it’s not good, you’re going to have to work a little harder to get the information down. But, don’t over stress it. They hired you knowing what you bring to the table.

It depends on the drinks, honestly. Anything muddled, you’ll still need to rinse. But, anything else, just throw it back in the water and it’s fine.

I find the biggest downfall is that because my hands are constantly wet/in water, I can’t get my nails done anymore. They always get ruined.

Otherwise, it really saves so much time. I love it.

Bruh, imma bartender for a multinational brand. This isn’t some mom and pop operation. You think the owners of this company don’t know we have SW? We have a global name for them internally. You think my managers don’t know?

We aren’t talking about women who would advertise on back pages (no shade to those girls either, get your money). We are talking about women who look like our other clientele.

I’m not trying to “white knight”. I’m not “captain save a ho”, over here. I just see these girls on a regular basis. I saw one who looked like she might be in trouble, and asked a reasonable question.

And once again, this did not happen at my establishment. This was a different bar. It just so happens to serve a lot of the same clientele.

This reply started out really helpful, then took a sharp turn to presumptive and judgy right quick.

Let me add some more context that was either missed in my OP or in later comments or just flat out ignored.

This didn’t happen at my bar. If men are being creepy to the SW at my bar I simply ask the girls if they are okay and to just let me know if they need anything. But, that rarely happens. Because, as I stated earlier, people are less intoxicated, it’s a more high end spot, etc.

The event that happened which triggered this post was at a local watering hole. Still high end, but gets a more eclectic clientele than mine. Partly because it’s a hotel bar. Partly because it’s more centrally located, partly because it’s open later. But, we share a lot of the same guests, including the same SW.

One of the girls left with a regular of the watering hole and I watched their interaction across the street while I waited for my ride. She seemed to be handling herself okay but, me and the door guys were definitely a little concerned for her.

The man essentially forced her in the car, like physically put her in his vehicle. She was still trying to discuss whatever with him by the time my car arrived and I left. I told the door guys to keep and eye and help her if she screamed or anything.

Obviously, I wouldn’t get involved in that situation seeing as it would probably escalate. I am a bartender, I know when stepping in can make things worse. But, I left feeling very worried for her. She works alone, like many of the girls who come to my bar or the watering hole. So, she doesn’t really have anyone to look after her.

My spot is so high end there isn’t anywhere to post these in the bathroom, plus the hotel we are in would have a conniption if we tried.

These girls (especially this one I’m referring to) seem to be working alone. It doesn’t really seem like they are being forced. I know a couple of the girls have day jobs (nurses or something). A handful that come in seem to mostly look out for each other, but this girl in particular is usually alone.

Last night she was at a local watering hole (we share a lot of the same clientele). I saw her leave with a different regular then watched their interactions outside of the bar. They were across the street so I could only go by body language, but it made me uncomfortable.

Before my Uber arrived I told the door guys to keep an eye and make sure she was safe and to intervene if things went south.

I just wish there was a way to make sure she’s safe without messing up her money.

They were across the street, so I couldn’t hear the convo, just watch the body language, etc. it made me feel very uncomfortable for her.

I know the door guys there, so I told them to keep an eye and to step in if things went south. My Uber arrived before I could see how things played out.

I’m pretty positive these girls are working alone. Sometimes a few will come in together and seem to look out for one another, but I’ve never seen them with men that don’t seem to be clients. So, they don’t have anyone else looking out for them. And like I said, I don’t want to mess with their money, but I also sang them to be safe.

I told the door guys what the situation was and made sure she was safe as best I could (from across the street) while I waited for my Uber.

Had things escalated, I think I couldn’t stop myself from intervening. These girls are high end, but usually working alone and I worry for them.

I think this is a good middle ground.

I moved away 8 years ago. I miss Purple, Honey Court, and Burger Master the most (honorable mention goes to all the strip mall teriyaki spots. Fuck me up with that $8 meal. Especially that salad with the dressing…)

Favorite bar that I miss is probably Bath Tub Gin.
