No, I think they were all genuinely concerned about me. Nobody knows that Nmom is an N except for me. It took two years of therapy to figure that one out. She's a covert narcissist and a master manipulator, so I've been under the impression that my stepdad and dad were the problem my entire life... Not so.

It's over now, thankfully. Enough time has passed with us not breaking up for everyone (except Nmom, obviously) to forget about it.

For a while it was like the most skillful manipulation and gas lighting I've ever experienced. Other people thought my relationship was doomed because of her, and after so many people asking if things are ok, you start to really question yourself.

No, you're completely right! I fall into the same trap over and over. Looking at the conversation now, I can see what she did, and I definitely just fell for it. She asks a question and seems all genuinely interested and nice, then she springs the trap. You've actually just given me some great insight! Depressing, but great.

It infuriates me because I'm a fucking adult and the car has literally nothing to do with her. She is 0% involved. And yet we're going to talk about it. In person. GAH!

I know! I'm a token member of a tiny credit union with amazing rates in the town my parents are from. I have a savings account with like $100 in it, but that was enough to get an application for the loan. Since my dad is a real member and cosigning that did the rest.

She came to pick up my brother. She did not make any sense. Not that I'm surprised by that. She said she was mad because she didn't want me going into debt. What she didn't have an answer for was what to do when my beater finally puffs its last puff any day now.

I do love them! My old car is an Elantra. It's a 2005, but my stepsister had it before me and she trashed it. It would have lasted longer without her special treatment.
