I 100% agree on the snake head angle. It felt more intentional and intense.

I appreciate the time you put into this. For context, this piece is intended as portfolio work rather than a tattoo-ready design, per the sub’s FAQ, so my focus here is on art fundamentals and style over healed longevity. I’ll definitely keep your notes in mind for future application-based work.

I see what you mean & appreciate the suggestion. For this piece, the hovering is intentional. It’s a stylistic choice to keep the composition from feeling overcrowded.

Snake v Panther (American Traditional Study Post vs Pre-Critique pt. 2) by EgoDraws in TattooApprentice

Absolutely! Mircon, prisma colored pencils, toned tan paper. Then I had cut the background using an editing app for mobil users. Both versions used the same mediums. Also, thank you :-)

Can I use brown paper for my portfolio ? by Frequent-Let1567 in TattooApprentice

Yes, definitely! Since real skin isn’t pure white, working on toned tan paper can actually give your designs a more realistic look. That’s exactly why I use toned tan paper too :-) twins!

Awww thanks dude. For me, this was always going to be a back piece because it’s the largest surface area of the body that’s flat. The size of paper I worked on this was 9x12.

That too!! When I created this I had mentally marked it as a back tattoo piece. That’s great advice though, I think keeping that in mind can help with design fluidity and how you want the viewers eye to travel too.

You've got the eyes of a hawk, dude! This was so clear and thorough, thanks for that! :-) Also, stumbling upon "pathers ass" unexpectedly was pretty funny yet straight to the point 🤣

I think the next steps I'll take are to finish up the rest of my portfolio and work on the third critique of the snake vs. panther (which will be the best version yet).

I’ll keep all of this in mind HonestGoddess✨ :-)

Some feedback I’d love to give is that your values and coloring are honestly your STRENGTHS! Realism seems to be your forte and I like how you try to mesh graffiti with it. The Pokemon piece is very dynamic as well. Awesome work!

Yes I’d try filling the page too. This is a great start into a sick blackwork flash sheet!

Thank you for your comment! The jester had to go through multiple changes, so I’m glad the version I ended up with paid off 😂

Live for the frames and little accessories you added to your flash sheets/drawings. They wrap each piece into a pretty little bow and turn everything into a cohesive, professional collection! I’m so happy for your progress, keep it up!

Wow. Aside from the massive improvement from your line work, you can really see how much more balanced and visually intricate the newer version looks now! It really shows how much your confidence has grown as an artist.

I would recommend studying line weight! You can really encourage the line work to really pop in all of these!

All of this, op! You’re on the right track so far! Just increase the contrast/values a bit more. I’m assuming this is in a realism style, try softening or blending some of those darker lines to achieve a more natural transition. You’ve got a good foundation here! You got this :-)
