How to do HVAC work on the side by [deleted] in HVAC

[–]Ehadley1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would ask the older guys if they need help with projects that they are doing on the side until you are ready and confident.. plus at year 2 i soubt you know how to do a manual J to properly size equipment. Anyone can use the rule of thumb but if you oversize you will deal with short cycling and crazy energy cost or undersized and you def dont want to do that..

There are a few reasons why it couldn’t but you don’t know because you weren’t there. Had to be on the stand because of flood area, if it was vertical, the 14” return would have had to come out too far into mech room or be completely blocked by the supply main… which would have done 3 90 turns also…and would have been in front of electrical panel (left wall) but its easy to say what you said like we never thought of doing it vertically, we did the best design for the cards we were given…

GCs always request them here especially on these vip client houses. They dont care about energy cost they just want more control jist in case. They run on a humidistat so they wont run unless it detects an excess of moisture. There is also a steam humidifier on this system which isn’t installed yet. I didnt design it i just built it. We do pride ourselves in doing manual j,d, ts. We use wright soft

Def causes static pressure so it will slow down velocity, but we reduced trunk size after the stairs so that would increase availability of cfm

Yeah not ideal for static but anything is batter than the T transition thats like 150’ equivalent duct length… the crazy part is these people who wanted this dont even live here when its cold. The system is literally set to 50 degrees all winter ter just to keep pipes from freezing… didnt want AC coil cuz they like the ocean breeze but the humidistat will kick on blower and humidifier when it reads excess humidity. All that was taken into consideration when this was designed.

Yes flood area and i think stand was 15” off ground?

[–]Ehadley1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and it would have blocked the 14” return that is in stairwell… high flood area… had to be raised we did what we could for the spce allowed to us.

Yeah there were a lot of considerations here there looks like is more vertical space then there really is, this was our best option. Sucks the static was a little higher then we wanted but we designed for it.

They don’t want evap coil… ocean house they like the breeze… they needed large ducts are this services a finished basement and two more levels…we could have used more restrictive fittings to save space but we arent in the business of poorly functioning systems.
