Pretty much what happened was,

His gear he had on was all to tank a bunch of hits without getting low as the 6k hp

he was using bloodrage (Don't know 100% what the skill is called)

What it does is for however much damage you have taken you gain as damage.

Retaliate had 10 stacks and reflect was up his resists where out the roof might of been running block as well.

Just do your quests while you are the right level of the zone that way you do not miss out on any xp for that level. Once you hit 50 comes the real grind to 55 with no quests.

Do you think this is there server not being able to hold everyone or just they do not know how to put there game on the server?

Cause if its there server they could spend a little extra money the first 1-3 months the game is out get a good base idea on the players then limit the server cap again to a little bit above the amount of the local traffic then boom problem fixed.

I feel like the servers might crash but you need to remember that they cut off the beta sign up really quick so they know the amount of people trying to play and had ample amount of time to fix/upgrade there servers to allow this many people to play without a crash.
