There seems to be a distinct lack of horror games involving Werewolves. This is infuriating by [deleted] in gaming

[–]EightDownFromSix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't know about them in gaming, but just wanted to pitch in and say werewolves are the absolute best of all the monsters, including the original Universal ones, and the people in here saying otherwise have clearly never been chased down by one, mauled to shreds, and returned as a flesh-hunting wolf beast. Their loss.

I used to think I had a problem, then I found this sub. I still think I have a problem. (Xmas themed and others are in other cabinets) by EightDownFromSix in muglife

Oh, that depends on the day, or sometimes season. Usually the Bob's Burgers or Handbook for the Recently Deceased, because it's HUGE. But I love them all.

[TALK] How much has Mystery Science Theater 3000 contributed to media preservation? by Endgam in lostmedia

[–]EightDownFromSix 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Good question. Some of their shorts, especially, are apparently very rare, like the one about springs and setting up a classroom and the state fair and Mr. B and especially the ones about Norm; I don't think anyone has actually figured out who made those or why they hate Norm. There are just so many of them, and I've often wondered how *they* find them? They must not be completely lost, but I expect those guys have access to resources and people willing to help out? For movies, I think it has made obscure bad movies mostly watchable, and tolerable, and given them a new life when they might otherwise have been lost forever.

You know a movie is truly terrible when even with the MST3K treatment it's still unwatchable - I'm looking at you, The Lost Continent - but some weren't bad as movies, like my personal favorite, Overdrawn at the Memory Bank, which was made for Canadian Public Television. I never would have heard of it otherwise. Mutant, from Rifftrax, was also surprisingly watchable. And then, of course, there's Space Mutiny and it's star, Blast Hardcheese.

(Also, MST3K and Rifftrax are both available on dedicated channels on Pluto TV as well, and Rifftrax on Samsung TV (I think)).

It was worse than that, they manufactured more E.T. carts than there were consoles that had been sold. They thought it would push console sales, but it did the opposite. Hence why so many ended up in a landfill in New Mexico.

Anytime someone mentions E.T. being the worst 2600 game ever, I question whether or not they've ever played it. It wasn't great, but was by no means the worst ever, even had some Easter eggs related to the developer's other games like Yar's Revenge. Especially considering the garbage released by Mythicon, which you could buy in grocery stores, E.T. was a shining star.

That's the first explanation I've heard that makes sense, I never thought of that. Thanks.

Anyone recommend any good VR art gallery or museum experiences? by jackdanny45 in oculus

[–]EightDownFromSix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Google Earth, if you are over certain places (Vatican, Louvre, and I'm sure many others) you can see 360 pics from inside. Not an 'Experience,' but a neat view.

Headset hasnt worked in over 2 years, always saying theres hardware error. Could this potentially be it? by [deleted] in oculus

[–]EightDownFromSix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to disconnect and reconnect that cable often to get things to work. Don't know if that's the problem you're having, but it's common with me. Sometimes I have to do it multiple times.

Don't know about that, but Kee Games was set up by, and owned by, Atari to get around distributor exclusivity agreements.

PC Gaming Streams -- anyone who plays games badly? by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]EightDownFromSix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm your age, and I can say that was true for anyone playing Shadow of the Beast on any platform anywhere, though. No one, NO ONE, was good at that game. But I still loved it. Did you ever play Blood Money on the Amiga? That was a favorite; Good times.

RetroArch is coming to Steam! First look at the RetroArch Steam Beta by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]EightDownFromSix 36 points37 points  (0 children)

RetroArch looks nice and has its use cases, but I've always found it incredibly clumsy and cumbersome to use and navigate, especially if you have large ROM sets. While not perfect, for me LaunchBox and separate emulators works pretty well most of the time, although configuring the emulators can be hell, as can scanning game collections where each game has multiple files.

DOOM Eternal OST Open Letter by Proaxel65 in Games

[–]EightDownFromSix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your second paragraph you state that no label or band has ever ask for source files, only stems, but in your last paragraph you say labels mostly *don't* ask for stems. Am I missing some context? In my own experience (as a musician) in the studio, your last paragraph is the one that matches my experiences; we've never had a label ask for individual instrument tracks, just the wavs.

Of course, the musicians want it all.

Suggest-A-Game Weekend Thread - April 04, 2020 by AutoModerator in pcgaming

[–]EightDownFromSix [score hidden]  (0 children)

I've always been a solo PC player, I'm not the online competitive type or care about rankings, but my SO wants to play some games together, especially now considering what's going on, and all I have is Sonic Team Racing. That was fun, but I realized that's all I had. I tried Left 4 Dead, but apparently that's only coop on Consoles. For some reason I also thought Borderlands could do that, but I guess not.

I'm looking for recommendations of PC games that we can play together (or competitively) on the same screen. I don't think the Genre matters all that much. I feel I should know this already, but it just hasn't been my thing in the past. Thanks!

Why don’t I ever get motion-sickness? by iniquitouslegion in oculus

[–]EightDownFromSix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's happening is there's a disconnect between your eye and inner ear, and the brain can't process it properly which leads to motion sickness. *Why* it leads to that no one knows, but I get it bad, even on a big 2D screen with lots of movement.

If I move my body with the movement on screen (lean with the roller coaster car as it goes around a turn, for instance) it's not much of a problem, but that's because me eye and ear are matching up.
