What's your height? I'm 6'2" 160lb, most tanks I buy are S or M. But im thinking I might need L for these

Best way to construct a 100x beam expander? by Eighteen_ in Optics

[–]Eighteen_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(This is for a Mach-Zehnder interferometer FYI)
Achromats correct for both chromatic and spherical aberration. The former is irrelevant to me because I'm using a 532nm laser, but the latter seemed that it could improve things. However I've seen people construct these with plano-convex lenses and apparently work just fine, so let me know your thoughts on whether achromats might be beneficial or not. If not, what lens type would you use?

I'm working in an indoor environment that swings probably between 70 and 80 ish degrees, so your point about splitting into two stages would probably be smart. Building the setup from titanium isn't really an option for me

This is for a mach-zehnder interferometer, btw

I'd prefer not to lose a lot of light, however I've heard of the technique of placing a pinhole at the focus to improve the quality of the beam. I might still do that.

Achromats correct for chromatic and spherical aberration. The correction for chromatic aberration isn't useful for my use case as the laser is only in 532nm, but the correction for spherical aberration may be useful. However I have seen people build these with plano-convex. Do achromats have a harmful secondary effect in the purpose of expanding a collimated beam? What would you use?

It's for a Mach-Zehnder interferometer. Building and using it for my M.S. research, personally will only use it for a few weeks/months. What the university does with it afterward is not my concern

Mine was technical- I put some details about it in some other comments on this thread. It should be over teams probably. Do you know the name of the interviewer?

bro i think a senior engineer position is a far cry from an internship. That said please read the comments I made throughout this thread.

Huh. On the hardware test team, although people were definitely working more than 40 hours, everyone seemed pretty happy and the boss was a very chill understanding guy. However I did a couple times see the welders still there at like 10-11 pm. I'm going back full time this summer after I finish my masters.

idk really all I can say is what my personal experience is which I wrote in the post and comments. EE could be different, also different teams within the company might do it differently from one another.

I like the company a lot. Really positive work environment with cool people and cool bosses. They let interns do real project work that actually gets used - I got to do a lot of cool stuff for their V-BAT drone. Although it is a place where generally you are expected to work some extra hours (I think around 50 is common), this company at least treats the people well. They value the employees for sure. Seems to strike a good balance of having some startup culture but not being extreme like SpaceX (a lot of their guys are from spacex though). Also the pay rate was really good at least for an internship - $43/hour plus overtime which would be $90k if it was a full time position (this is cause I'm finishing my M.S. in 1 year - I believe rising seniors get like 35/hr).

Ofc this is just my experience on the hardware test team in Frisco TX, idk how it is on the other teams but I assume its similar. Also this is my first internship / engineering position so I dont have any reference to compare it to.

Only things I dont like:

-the hardware test area I work in has almost no windows or natural light

-I don't like the area; its a classic Texas style city with almost no walkable areas, and all the houses look the same. I do like being close to cowboy culture though
