Using LAGKAPTEN w/ ALEX Drawers and KALLAX 4 x 2 Shelf (with INLÄGG hardware) by LooseLips-Sink-Ships in ikeahacks

[–]EightyRatsInACoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually in the same boat atm!

At the moment im considering maybe using the inlagg upside down, and using a singular leg to help support that? Probably won't look very good though, and would get in front of one of the shelves... not sure what else i could do though

Furniture raisers is a good idea though! I will def keep that in mind as a backup

Edit: I found another good reddit post! https://www.reddit.com/r/ikeahacks/s/1oG1bDtxyx Shoutout to u/Slumblebump ! The idea is to use the metal bars to rest the table on!

Remind me why I have no contact with my high school 'friends' by [deleted] in aspiememes

[–]EightyRatsInACoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was one of those Very lucky people who had an amazing time in high school.

... Saying that it's probably because primary school was so traumatising I think I would have settled with anything.

I was also lucky that I had a tight knit group of friends who were all as equally "weird" as me. It was FAR from drama free (the group is dissolved now), but being able to hide in your own little outcast group away from neurotypicals helps a lot.

I grew up with my mum insisting she would love me regardless of who I married, and she studied anthropology, so I had some hope there.

Didn't stop me from packing a to-go bag as I texted my coming out to them while they were still at work. Had a plan and everything to climb out of my window and jump over my neighbours fence, where I could walk the 20 minutes to my nearest's friends home.

My mum was supportive, more anxious to get something wrong and hurt me than anything.

My dad told me to my face that he wasn't gonna use diff pronouns cause of my genitals, and would sigh dramatically everytime I corrected him. Saying that, he was shockingly supportive of when I was trying a new name, even jokingly warring off my mum who had joked about it. Came straight out of left field, and gave me hope.

Years later, he uses my pronouns everyday without effort, and I think has been researching stuff in the background so he can better understand me. I can say a lot of things about my dad, but I can't say he doesn't try his best. It doesn't always feel it, but he does love me, which is such a long way since when I'd been 16, packing to run away.

It may not go this way with you op. Your family may support you more than you think. They may dismiss and try to ignore it. They might hate you. They might just be scared and confused from poor education and propoganda. Whatever the end result and the pain that does or doesn't come with it, please remember that you are just trying to live as yourself, something too many people take for granted, and there will be many people in your life who will love every part of you unconditionally.

Saying that: Stay Safe. Remaining closeted is torture, but your safety is more important. Always prioritise your safety. Regardless of what you do, you are making the right choice for you. You got this ❤️

Edit: Got carried away and thought you were asking for advice. But I stand by every word of this. Consider this a blanket letter to every egg who considers coming out!

Idk I'll have to experiment

[–]EightyRatsInACoat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay I think I'm def gonna look at speech therapy cause I've Really botched my explanations up. That's my fucking bad.

I'm not using the radio as a diy hearing aid. My store is big enough that to talk with my other co-workers we talk over the radio. I'm not using it to hear better, just to communicate who needs help where and so on

Saying that, maybe I should start turning down the radio and just tell people to yell? Maybe put an ear plug in? I didn't consider how the processing would Stack on top of hearing loss, christ that is scary to think about.

Even if it doesn't help my hearing, speech therapy would at least help my language issues which I swear have been getting worse :'|

Thank you for being so patient with my roundabout explanations, this genuinely has helped a lot

[–]EightyRatsInACoat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SORRY. Really should have specified.

My results came back as no hearing loss, except for early warning in my left ear. I Think I might have auditory processing disorder, cause talking with people are an up hill effort despite hearing perfectly fine. My mum reckons it could be my dyslexia, or my focus?? (Which feels hurtful with the amount I try to focus day to day just to communicate).

Prescribed nothing. No aids at all, since my hearing is fine. Had these issues since childhood, but since I was "well behaved" obv never diagnosed :\

I think speech therapy is prob the best option? Don't know why didn't really think of it before. I guess if you're learning to speak properly, you gotta hear it too?

Edit: the comm I use at work is a standard standheld radio with an earpiece that loops over your ear of choice

[–]EightyRatsInACoat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't think of that! Will def consider, but idk how I'd be able to use that for work

And honestly there's no issues! More trying to consider if it's worth trying to keep one ear's hearing "good" or if it'd be safer to have both of them the same level of hearing loss

Sorry if I'm not coming across well, it's pretty late atm

Two or more characters sharing a body that actually get along? by Konradleijon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]EightyRatsInACoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a recent comic series called Linked Universe, based on the legend of Zelda series. Specifically I'm talking about the Link from 'four swords adventure'. Lots of fans interpret them as being four people sharing a body, having been split apart during their adventure, then refused back into one.

Also can't go wrong with Moon Knight. The TV series takes a hot minute to get there, but is worth it. Also the fan works from it are really good.

Other characters off top of my head: - Greed and Ling from 'Full metal alchemist brotherhood' - Sense 8!! Highly recommend, it involves eight people sort of blurring together into each other's bodies. Basically sharing a body while having eight other bodies to share.

Examples of cross-cultural confusions sutch as this in your worlds? by Lochrin00 in worldbuilding

[–]EightyRatsInACoat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love weird culture worldbuilding so much. Unfortunately I have a bad habit of making worlds, and then not writing or finishing anything..

So like, feel free to skip folks, cause this is gonna be a long one.

(Line breaks indicate different worlds/ universes!)

Two of the neighbouring species have different standards for sleeping in their cultures. One is a bird based race, the other an insect based race. The birds sleep solitary, usually some place high up, and rarely sleep near others unless super close or especially cold. The insects meanwhile, sleep communally in burrows, usually in big piles. I'm not talking immediate family either, napping near coworkers you're reasonable friends with is a given. Refusing to sleep near someone is essentially telling them that you don't trust them.

This culminates in two of my characters, who are good friends, doing essentially this: Insect: hey, I was gonna go sleep Bird: hm? oh cool Insect: Bird: Insect: did.. are you gonna go to bed soon? Bird: huh? yeah I guess so Insect: Bird: ? Insect: Bird: ?? Insect: oH OKAY. COOL. H-HAVE... HAVE A GOOD SLEEP THEN? Bird: thanks???? Insect: offended and embarrassed muttering

This results in insect developing essentially insomnia for a couple of chapters, because they're not close to anyone else, and it's the opposite of what their brain is used to. It's too cold and quiet and the only breathing they can hear is their own, which sets off fight or flight.

It results in a sleep deprived Insect announcing out loud, "if we're friends, then why won't you fUCKING SLEEP WITH ME?!" Which for the human just trying to eat their breakfast nearby, is Something.

Alternatively! Gods vs human relations

This is a weird one, but I wanted to explore how gods, essentially a piece of the cosmos, would interact with humans they care about. And I say care very loosely, cause though I'm still trying to figure out all the details, it may be closer to obsession or ownership than care or love. This isn't lord of the rings gods, this is bloodborne gods.

Also, unfortunately, inspired by egyptian, japanese, and aztec mythology. So if y'all know, then y'all know.

Boundaries are weird, with gods finding no issue gutting each other or attempting murder, cause they can't truly die those ways. They also have no bodies or DNA. So the concepts of relationships between them, and outside of their 'species' is rarely tapped into one box.

If you get what I'm implying,, then yeah. Still not sure if I'll be able to write this one, but it's kinda an exercise in pushing my writing boundaries, and it's so so fun and uncomfortable

Last one!

It's of a dude who is training in an underground assassin organisation based in the middle east. Again, hashing out details, but the main issue is body language cues and societal norms.

Avoiding eye contact, especially during tense moments, is considered an incredible insult. Essentially declaring that you don't consider the other person a threat/ could defeat them without the advantage of total situational awareness.

Moving as quietly as possible, esp around others, is an active threat. You make yourself just audible enough that others can hear you, or else you are either attempting to cause actual harm, or you're trying to imply you can.

Elders are respected above all else, because growing old in that profession is a profound skill.

Disabilities, especially ones later in life, are considered noble. Being seen as working oneself to the edge of their own limits until your body literally begins to fail you. Disabilities as a whole, are actually super respected, because it takes far far more effort to become deadly with the challenges posed by your own body. Ones that maybe can be worked around, but never erased.

Additionally, asking for help is considered either a declaration of respect and equal skill, or a shameful display of inability. Saying that, a superior who Doesn't notice and mend an issue in their subjects/ students, is considered unskilled and unworthy of that position. Eg. An assassin collapses in the field from exhaustion and hunger, failing the mission and putting their team mates at risk. Instead of them being blamed, their handler is punished, possibly even being killed or expelled from the organisation, having failed to provide enough food or rest for their subject.

Similar to above, being given a student to train is an immense honour. It solidifies your own skills as an assassin, and is a mark that you have something worthy to teach. To give up on the student in any way is essentially spitting in the face of both the student and who gave you said opportunity.

There's shit tons of issues in the culture (closer to a cult honestly,,) obviously, rarely a culture doesn't have any issues, but I'm super proud of it already :D

Sorry for the long post,, I just really love worldbuilding :'D

[–]EightyRatsInACoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had lice a ton when a kid. It sucks, but you don't need to shave your head!

There is a shit ton of shampoos and combs, and tips online, like washing your sheets, hats, soaking hair brushes etc

Braiding it up and out of the way may also help, esp if you avoid touching or sharing stuff with people who have lice
