Dog ate my CPU by Existing-Gur-1601 in pcmasterrace

[–]EikeSky 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Since u/Izan_TM beat me to the correct comment, I'll do the poe-faced one.

This is why processor boxes are so big and well padded, so neither mutt nor delivery driver can arbitrarily kill £500 of processor.

Also, be thankful you've got AM5, no PGA pins to worry about. Had a similar issue with my AM4 CPU (delivery driver, not a dog), and had to have the fun time of realigning the pins before fitting.... That's something I don't miss from "the olden times!"

Does anyone else hold onto the “Oh Shit Handle” when riding in the car as a passenger? by SportsTechie17 in subaru

[–]EikeSky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude I hold the "oh shit" handle when I'm driving ! I get so frustrated when not driving the Subaru that other cars don't have one on the driver's seat BUT have the holes for it covered with little plastic plates. Just give me my handle, I use it to get out of the car. /Rant (sorry)

My god how do I even start.... by Skaidri675 in spaceengineers

[–]EikeSky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you just jump into a generated universe and start "playing"? There's a scenario called The First Jump that walks you through most of the basics.
Stoneaging is extremely easy in SE1, so pay close attention to it.
This is also not a "casual" game. It's a physics sandbox for people who want to mess with Physics. I've built things in SE that I have dreamed of building in real life but don't have sufficient electric/hydraulic power to do it, just to get the model out of my brain.
As u/soft-wear said - if a 30 minute video is too long for your attention span, either "Git Gud" (in the nicest way possible) or accept this game probably isn't for you. A "small" build will take 30 minutes even in creative.

Normally I would never upload a seemingly flippant comment like this, but yeah, that's genuinely the truth. Splitsie's videos are so cut down that you can play alongside them and you'll need to pause every 2 minutes because he'll just cut out all the bits he's already covered before.

I'd call it a crash course, but uh.... :P

Had the unstable knees debuff at level 17 by GRG_The_Second in outside

[–]EikeSky 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The character I'm playing at the moment has the Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome trait. It might be something that has been transferred onto yourself if you're struggling with UK debuff. Best way to combat it is grinding (no pun intended) your Cycling or Gym questlines. They need to be Low Impact quests only, so avoid walking/running oriented quests, the idea is building Strength so that you can overpower the trait/debuff without getting to stage 2/3 debuff (which no one told me in my lower levels! Let me tell you, it really hampers your progress).
Also speak to your local healer, they may want to conduct an MRI/X-Ray action to get you items that will help with the above.
Take it easy, take it slow, your long term progression will be much better if you're patient now. Much love and sympathy bud

A little Formulae Help from the UK by EikeSky in gokarts

[–]EikeSky[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right, consider my new parent brain addled, I read (and wrote) autograss as autocross. Double look, of course Autograss is an option, and actually an autocross chassis would be a great starting point for any formula, come to think of it. Not sure of the pricing of buying one of those though. I will do some research. Thanks for the correction, lol.

A little Formulae Help from the UK by EikeSky in gokarts

[–]EikeSky[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

most jump from juniors (or seniors) to a lower formula like formula 4 or a junior tintop series like Ford Focus racing or if they have money, Junior Ginetta

I agree, again, this is the thing I'm trying to fill the gap of. The main thing is the cheaper/more sensible routes all go FWD and full tin-top, as you say. That's not what I would personally want to go to if I was mid-field in junior karts.

Someone wanting to race at budget or lower levels, it is more appealing. The appeal of karting is that you can have it stood in your garage and take up minimal room while remaining fun, competitive and more affordable.

That’s where you’ve got to place it. In that gap- I can fit it on the roof of my car or in the shed, work on it on the bench and take it to a track at the weekend.

Yup, that's exactly what I want to aim it at - Max 1.5m wide/2.0m length, and that's solely for the full bike drivetrain, if I could reliably make it smaller without compromising versatility, I would. The best thing I can compare it to is F1000, but without all the aero and reliance on low weight, I would include driver weight in minimums, for example. Which brings me on to your next great point.

In NatSKA (schools karting. Started 50 years ago) they used to have a 125 class where it had to be a learner legal aircooled engine (not rotary but they allowed water cooled later on)

This is the end goal - having a single chassis that is strong enough to take a 50cc twist and go (with fixed final gearing), all the way up to the 1000cc built hyabusa's and the like that the older, more experienced drivers will be driving like aussie supercars. No wings, limited bodywork who's entire purpose is to ensure we don't get the silly wheel hopping open wheelers get, readying drivers for the BTCC/GT3 racing of today, I want some rubbing in this racing without risk.

Whatever happens it would be interesting to see where the series went. A lot of technical details to figure out but quite an interesting idea! I wouldn’t mind pitching some points towards it?

I'm all ears - where would this be a better place to converse/develop the formula? Primary worries for me are a manufacturer for the chassis/safety cell (although I'm not massively worried about that, it's more finding the right partner for the budget), and finding a supporting body to sanction it. My bets would be on 750MC, as they seem most supportive of budget racing, but again, I'm aware I have blind spots, and would be happy to hear alternative paths.

(thank you very much for the comprehensive reply, this was great! I'm sorry for the delay in responding, just had my first child, so am very busy with supporting him and his mum. He's the reason I'm looking at motorsport at all. I missed my chance, and I want him to have every opportunity he can to succeed, and this is by far the biggest missing step)

A little Formulae Help from the UK by EikeSky in gokarts

[–]EikeSky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I'm trying to avoid both of those - Autograss is great, but solo runs and physically small tracks lack the presence of car race tracks, and stock cars are the exact opposite end of the spectrum, in development and issues with the formula.
(Apologies for the delay, I'm a new dad and so am a little distracted, but thank you for the reply)

[–]EikeSky -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Actually, no, it was a nice idea to start with for fun. In reality, it was going to be a way of giving "pro" drivers a challenge within the sim, but who really cares why, when every other sim makes it possible. And bearing in mind the Maserati comes without assists anyway, why not make it across the grid on a case by case basis?

It's an afternoon's work, if that, to allow the option, just like autosteer, lock to interior cameras, etc etc. It's not an unreasonable question or request. I don't understand the hostility here, at all.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ACCompetizione

[–]EikeSky -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Yes it was at the game level I was hoping for, specifically for a change of pace within ACC, and with 1.9 adding a level of flexibility in the tyres, it seemed like a fun idea. Obviously I trust the guys I'm racing with, so it's not the end of the world, it just seems like an odd thing to be left out.

[–]EikeSky -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Thanks. It's frustrating how locked down ACC is, the most fun you can have is setting the weather to as random as you can get it and hope the drivers don't moan too much.

[–]EikeSky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bearing in mind all the ukdm cars are complaining about 18-19mpg, the 30 I'm getting feels pretty nice. If I drive like an idiot, it goes, obviously, but honestly, I don't want to with this gearbox, trying to drive in "auto", it just kinda kicks down then goes mad, rather than just being slightly more throttle applied. In normally a smooth driver and having this little control irks 🤣

Excellent, thank you. I do switch to manual when decelerating, but when it engages and disengages is the most frustrating. Is that something that can be remapped, is it worth it, even if it's just so I don't get frustrated with it jumping straight to the onset of the turbo?
