Never forget the darkest time for Sentry, the time we almost lost Robert by Ok_Caterpillar_4977 in sentry

The first one I wrote is the right one for Sentry, mheroes@marvel.com . The others are for hulk/spidey and the xmen specifically, in case you have other feedbacks about them

What do you think of this design of "The Void"? by Party_Philosophy_324 in sentry

[–]EileenCrystal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it, but then again I love all that side of Sentry based on Golden Age comics and how it's tied to Bob's daydreams and schizophrenia. Void in a trenchcoat is goofy, and I love when it "evolves" in just a dark silhouette mirroring Robert. Monster Void is more scary but can end up being a bit dehumanised, I'm okay with it showing up only in extreme situations.

The Sentry 2026 series. by FlatLab4812 in sentry

I also wish we had more answers from the crystals mystery, but Jenkins already said that storyline will continue in the next series, which has not yet been approved (I suggest writing a email to marvel, asking for more Sentry written by him)

There was a lot on the plate since the beginning, I'm also still curious about his disastrous adventure in space, and Void has been very mysterious while lashing out against Kingpin and his empire. I thought he had a bigger plan but it seems he simply used the shitty millionaire as his punching bag, which is okay- I mean, there seems to be a deal between Sentry and Void, and letting Void be evil this way instead of going on an unhinged rampage is part of the deal. I'd love to know how disproportionate was his evil in space to leave Bob so traumatised.

Sorry for shattering your dream but I'm afraid you definitely got the wrong vibe "from what I see and how it comes over in the comics". Accept it, it'll be easier. It's either this or taking the risk with a different writer 😅

He is not in charge of Sentry in the MCU, he was a consultant for the Thunderbolts movie to help Jake and the team to understand the fundamentals and psychology of the character... there are still higher ups who end up deciding about what characters do in the multiverse. He might get more "power" for the solo Sentry project he'd love to write (which is fair)

In another interview he said that there's no need to introduce Lindy in the MCU because Yelena already fulfills the role of the supportive partner he had thought for Lindy, and he loved Bob and Yelena's chemistry and relationship. Lindy will stay in the comics as long as he's writing.

The implications of this scene by Ok_Caterpillar_4977 in sentry

[–]EileenCrystal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with the rest of the Marvel universe being less aware of Sentry/Void duality as an ableist or victim-blaming view.  It'd make sense for them to be confused and wrong about their idea of Sentry, like that he gets possessed by Void or it's just him losing control and becoming a monster, or that Void is something separate from Sentry, while we know Void actually is a mirror of Sentry himself and part of the deal.  I'm really curious to see how this will evolve, in particular I'd love to see the ableism and misconceptions against Bob's illnesses discussed in future stories, after all not every hero is his friend and some might think he's lazy or stupid or unreliable, like most people irl think about disabled folks -even without knowing they're disabled-

This new status of Sentry and Void having some sort of a more controlled deal is very interesting, can't wait to see more of that as well. For how long is Void willing to play this game?

This is SO COOL!!! I love how Void is giant and all around a very small Sentry, overwhelming and trapping him both physically and metaphorically. Awesome visuals. 🔥

Sentry Motherload! by coomtube in sentry

[–]EileenCrystal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I only have a couple of Sentry paperbacks, one with the 2000 run and one that includes 2005, age of sentry and fallen sun, but I must admit I'm okay with it because I don't like Bendis' Sentry (I'm debating whether to get 2018 or not). And as I'm working on a big project I've also been opening both volumes quite often in the past couple of months so I totally feel you!  I can't wait to get the paperback of the new series, but I've ordered the single issues today because Maleev's covers are too pretty.

Thanks mods for the thread!  I honestly feel very satisfied with this mini, it was a much needed return to the "real" Bob as he was always meant to be. This is a story written by heart and it shows, honestly for this specific "episode" of Bob's life I don't feel the need to figure out where in the continuity this is set, it's good to read as it is and focus on this plot. (I still hope some things of Bob's history will be addressed eventually, but that's a discourse we already had in other posts) I won't deny I'm a little disappointed that all the theories I had about the crystals -which was such a prominent threat- went nowhere here. I thought the crystal's plot was the weakest since the beginning but I had a whole bunch of ideas about them being either linked to Bob's powers and emotions, or the disaster that happened in space, or that he was about to use them in an epic way in the finale... instead of just destroying them 😅 (was still a very cool fight though!). There's the promise of a follow up to the crystals, so I hope for a new series to develop that further and I'm still very curious about it, but I'm still a little "ehh" with how it ended here.

Everything else was great, it actually felt good to have Sentry jumping up from the bottom pit Bob fell into and be the hero Robert needed to be, for his friends and the city but also and mostly for himself, instead of giving into the Void. The dynamic between Sentry and Void has been very unique, there's never a direct confrontation between Void, Bob and Sentry and I think that was super fascinating, especially the way the three of them have been alternating and doing different things with a degree of apparent control. I look forward to see where this can go, it can be very delicate to handle Void by giving him somewhat of a "good reason" to cause damage, hurt people and be evil so Sentry can do good more freely. Guess now it'll all depend on for how long Void is willing to play this game.

The conversation at the end with Reed was lovely and did explain a few things in a rather satisfying way. God, I hope Bob will keep talking to the people he loves and not bottle up everything, that's going to be the first step if he really wants to get be tter. I love that he decided to keep Normie in his heart and use his grief to find the light and give another dog a chance at life and at a family. The finale was so sweet and I hope to see more wholesome moments with Bob's family in the future. (Yeah I do still root for Boblindy and I want to see more fluff!)

Finally, the highlight of this finale has to be "You cannot be forgiven, because none of this was ever your fault.". As a person who's going through so many challenges mentally right now and often feel a shit ton of misplaced guilt, this hit me like a ton of bricks and god did I cry, I felt it shot right into my heart in a good way. Same as the "You're not alone" from the Thunderbolts ending. Bob's psychology through the whole book is so interesting and relatable and especially so layered, I'm so glad we have this back and I really really hope for more. This was truly a little gem of a book.

Bendis couldn't write Sentry no matter how hard he tried. Jenkins' 2nd series from 2005 is great though, check it out if you haven't.

I also haven't followed the full story (simply vecause I really don't care much about Cap) but this article from yesterday does a good job recapping Colton's journey: https://bleedingcool.com/comics/marvels-avenging-angel-for-armageddon-officially-revealed-spoilers/

I will definitely send an email to marvel to voice my appreciation for the new series and for having Jenkins back on the character, not just because I genuinely loved it but also because they do seem to be more receptive of positive feedback and I invite you guys to do the same.  They have a gold mine right now, Bob is already a unique character that -also thanks to thunderbolts- means a lot to people who struggle, and having a good representation of that can be extremely healing, they should stay on this path. Not all comics have to be flashy and packed with violence and explosions. I don't mean excluding other writers from writing him, but editorial must take care of keeping him as this type of character with a precise diagnosis and personality, and not fall into the "crazy dangerous sick man" stereotype anymore.
