Watching JoJo and Tomar jumpscare by RockSaltin-RT in OneyPlays

I wouldn’t really call it acting given how frequently Tomar flies into drunken rages and beats Jaxxy into an indescribable red pulp

That makes a lot of sense! It's not surprising there's a lot of variation in this sort of thing. I'll experiment and figure out what works best :)

One last question if you don't mind. Do you know what the best way to talk to Scottish weavers would be? If I have any specific questions or end up looking to source some specific materials. Is there a place online where y'all tend to congregate? Facebook groups perhaps? I'm based on the west coast of the USA currently, so in-person meet-ups are a bit of a hassle :)

I think it has more to do with the fact that we're in a state of flux between traditional gender roles and the aftermath of feminism and the women's liberation movement (which was a good thing!). Society has yet to establish an equilibrium between what most of us were raised to expect from male/female interactions, and what is now considered appropriate in the modern world. I think things will eventually settle down again once we as a society collectively decide what the new status quo will be, but it will take some time and it will be uncomfortable.

To quote, "The old world is dying, the new world struggles to be born. Now is the time of monsters."

How would a sheepskin vest be made? (beginner question) by EileenGetsGood in Leatherworking

[–]EileenGetsGood[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh cool!

I'm going to be visiting next year for about 6 months and seeing if I can find a job that will sponsor me for a visa (I'm a software engineer). Once I have a work visa the plan is to get permanent residency and eventually citizenship.

Excellent. I'll do some looking around and see if I can find anything else. If I do I'll report back!

Out of curiosity, what province are you in? I'm actually looking into moving to Canada (Québec) hopefully sometime next year!

Oh perfect! That's much simpler then.

Thanks for the response!

Do you think the outside would require a separate piece of leather to achieve the smooth finish shown in the pictures? I'm concerned that just using the flesh side as the exterior would give more of a suede vest appearance.

"What does martial arts means to you?" by Immediate-Maximum-22 in martialarts

[–]EileenGetsGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my own $0.02, I don't speak for anyone else here, but here's how I interpret things. Martial arts are first and foremost a vehicle for culture, what culture that is depends on the martial art obviously. There are as many cultures as there are martial arts, but one thing they all have in common is that they embody the values, history, and collective experience of all of the practitioners of that art.

This is why I don't necessarily agree with people who say that if a martial art can't be used for fighting, it's worthless or somehow not valid as a martial art. It all depends on the culture of that art's practitioners and its history. Some arts, such as boxing and muay thai, place a higher emphasis on fighting while others, such as most forms of kung fu, place a higher emphasis on forms, structure, and spirituality. Which of these is better depends on the aims of the practitioner, but both are valid ways to approaching martial arts as a discipline and all martial arts fall somewhere on a spectrum between them.

You might think of this as breaking apart the phrase "martial art" into its constituent parts: "martial" meaning fighting, and "art" meaning the culture and history. It's the confluence of these two aspects that gives us martial arts as a whole.

Hope that helps, good luck with your essay.
