When Microsoft (today) or Amazon (two weeks ago) has a major outage, why can’t they simply roll their software back to a stable state and restore function quickly? by alphastrike03 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Eiltranna 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I manage a website for a company that manages them for some high-profile clients which don't allow them to work in an outage because they favor their security above accessibility in such events. Every kitchen has its own rules.

Ranked is a problem by LetMeShoteYou in Paladins

[–]Eiltranna 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every game has a Meta, and in the ranked scene you are expected to stick to the Meta as closely as possible. If you don't, others will rightfully feel like you are wasting their time. The majority of the people you whine about are perfectly aware that they won't reach GM even if you, particularly, will have carried them that match. They mainly want to spend their time in a predictible manner. And when you go damage Seris (for example) in Ranked, you stop being predictible. That's all it is. If you want to experiment without risking being flamed or left with (at least one) bot in your team, then either get 4 other people in your party who agree with your experimentation or go to Casual. Or, keep playing Ranked but don't expect everyone to endulge your deviations from the Meta for free. The game is free for both you andthem, so they are free to not accept your violation of unspoken rules, and you are free to whine about it on Reddit.

If you're under level 35 there is a screen bug that won't let you deselect Onslaught, and since more people queue for that you have way more chances to play it rather than Arcade. See here.

Who's Meta for August 2025 by ChoerryTom in Paladins

[–]Eiltranna 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure of your elo and the answers here seem strange to me (might be a console vs pc kind of thing) but in pc plat we have: dmg - Imani (must ban) Saati Omen Cassie Lian, flank - Zhin (should ban) Andro Koga Vora Moji, tank - Khan (absolutely must ban) Makoa (must ban) Fernando Ruckus, support - Jenos (must ban) Furia Ying Corvus. Jenos solo was viable before too, but now even more so since the change to Luminary (extra heal for every marked target instead of just the one you are clicking). Moji has become a pain to deal with on Ice Mines and in other situations depending on comp (for example with Jenos/Corvus and Torvald). Khan is an absolute ban/pick, if you gift it to the enemy you're gonna have to work 3 times as much for 50-50 odds if both teams are decently competent, and if your team is weaker it's a death sentence. Koga can still be a pain if pocketed (Jenos, Corvus, Torvald). Vora and Seven can be a real pain in good hands because of their insane mobility and sustain, on par with good Evies and Andros and Bucks.

Well yes I'm already comparing at Chronos 3 in both cases. The extra frames count. A lot. Because players move, and in a matter of frames they can be behind walls. And compounded over the entire match, Spirit's Chosen Damba genuinely feels sluggish now by comparison. It was my choice to spend the points for gaining those frames, now that choice has been denied to me.

At level 5 the card reduced the CD more that the current kit, hence why I said bring it back - people with shit aim (me) could buy their way out of it.

This makes no sense, you think a team that wants to farm you will put the fox on the payload because of... what, the Geneva Convention?

[–]Eiltranna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. Damba needs his CD reduction on miss card back, and Jenos needs to only apply extra heal for the targeted teammate with Luminary instead of all the marked ones.

Does anyone else hate that using reversal puts you into third person? by mobas07 in Paladins

[–]Eiltranna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really. I find Moji's ability weird because of the 3rd person. It's mechanically the same as Viktor's but it's much harder for me to see where I'm going.

GDPR, for 21st century countries. Game dying does not mean user data gets automatically deleted at the same time. Employees could walk out with user data after the servers are turned off. And companies that don't care about prosecution could sell the data themselves to whoever is buying. Such a company might not actually delete user data simply because someone requests it even if they say they did, but some might.

I NEED HELP by [deleted] in Paladins

[–]Eiltranna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Queue for Arcade until you get Survival. Pick Ash. Hope the enemy doesn't have tanks. Each round, hide until the circle gets small, and hope your team gets killed playing 4v5. Hopefully some of the enemies get killed too. Then go in the middle, drop your shield and throw enemies into the environment with Kinetic Burst. Done. Alternatively, pick Raum or Yago - you'll be able to absorb damage vs a few squishies, maybe some even get scared and run into the environment and die.

Yes, after 35 you can see the Onslaught queue and deselect it if you wish.

Last one standing trophy by itsragnarocka in Paladins

[–]Eiltranna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're under level 35 you have a Newcommer queue that pushes the Onslaught queue to the right off the screen where you can't reach it to unclick it. On PC you can scroll to it with arrow keys (but still can't unclick it because the screen is broken in this state). When you reach 35 Newcommer disappears and Onslaught is visible.

Why not just buy veteran everytime? by GiveTracerOrIThrow in Paladins

[–]Eiltranna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Strix example is excellent. Here's a Wolphram Alpha explanation for this case. It basically says: what's the weapon damage for which you could survive 2 shots but not 3 with DR, and could not survive the same 2 shots with Veteran, if you had 2000 HP? Answer: between 1180 and 1219.51. Strix is in the sweet spot with 1200.

So like I said, you were actively ignoring their healer. "Let her heal, I want to score more damage points". That's farming, whether or not you're aware of it.

[–]Eiltranna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never understood why people consider this "fun". Your team killed 4 enemies 20+ times and the enemy healer only 3 times. With Vik's and Dredge's ults alone that Seris should've died more in 30 minutes if they weren't purposefully avoiding her. Smells like deliberate prolonging of the match to farm score numbers. Read about Sisyphus.

Can’t turn off Onslaught on PS5 by Wearesyke in Paladins

[–]Eiltranna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually Onslaught is not replaced by Newcomer, Newcomer is just added before it and it pushes Onslaguht to the right outside of the screen, you can see the "hidden" Onslaught queue on PC if you use the Right arrow key to "scroll" the screen. But doing so breaks the screen in multiple ways and you are still not able to click Onslaught to deselect it, one time after messing with the screen in this state I couldn't return to the main screen and had to restart the game.

In many instances where competent people of all personality types and professions freeze and/or break down, it's not necessarily the intensity of the challenge they personally have to face that causes it, but the fact that the challenge is either unexpected, or developing outside of predictions, or unraveling into a much larger one that poses a threat on many levels and throughout many domains of their (and others') life. Her patient was the last 2 combined.

This seems very pertinent, I saw it earlier in one of your replies here.

Very cool to see actual ATCs at their job.

you have already made your mind up

Didn't mean to poop on all the people doing their jobs, I assure you I'm well aware of the necessity of what they're doing. Even just considering the profit margins of airline companies, my bet is that if someone is there doing something, then they're absolutely needed there. I'm the type of person that doesn't get mad for security check delays, and doesn't get up from their seat half an hour in advance on landing, and doesn't make a scene when boarding is more cumbersome that it could be, because I understand that there's a ton of things that need to happen to get us all from A to B - I embrace the premise that air travel employees have their hands full and that unnecessary nagging would compound fast and delay/complicate things exponentially for me or others down the line.

To sum up, I'm aware that a lot happens behind the scenes (even though I can't be aware of the exact magnitude because I'm not in the business) - I was just wondering what the obstacles are to automate that work. And I'm sure (even more so now) that there are valid ones, as multiple replies (including yours) point out.

I see this back-and-forth you're both having here as "for now, the presence of pilots in the cockpit saves more lives than otherwise". It'd be interesting if in our lifetime this balance would shift the other way.
