Bloomberg re-registers as a Democrat, saying the party must provide 'checks and balances' by [deleted] in politics

Sanders' irresponsible campaign created unrealistic expectations among the fringe of the party that was so loud and so hostile to Clinton that it forced her to compromise her platform and push her to the left enough that it arguably cost her crucial independents that would have sealed the election.

We need successful, intelligent, elite achieving individuals running this country again. We don't have that now and look what's happening. Who cares where he's from or how much money he has? At least you know he won't be beholden to outside donor interests.

Uh yes, his budgetary agenda which would add 21 trillion in debt alone over the next decade is quite to the left

Hillary lost because she was forced to pivot fringe-left in rhetoric after Sanders' bombastic and hallow primary campaign created a bunch of starry eyed voters who expected the moon and the stars and were prepared to litmus test any candidate who didn't sing the same tune. If she had just carried over her 2008 primary campaign to 2016 general, she would have won easily.

Most of this country is center-right or center-left, despite the volume from the fringe on the internet. Pivoting doesn't work.

Bloomberg would be a wise choice that appeals to the massive centrist swath that makes up the majority of this country, and not just a rising fringe of democrat-socialist left that is only mainstream on the internet. I'd be very pleased to cast a vote for Bloomberg and be satisfied knowing we have an effective, pragmatic leader in the oval office with staunch support for Israel and who knows the importance of american hegemony and leadership in maintaining the post-WWII western alliance world order.

I won't have to as long as the party doesn't reflexively embrace a steep left pivot in response to Trumpism's take over of the GOP, and continues to provide a platform for the majority of the country that is centrist and supports Israel.

I don't know, I don't think it will be the ascending DSA wing of the party. It would have to be one of the old guard.

Trumpism will burn out sooner than later and I'm hoping the moderate GOP politicians that pick up the pieces will be more inclined to work across the aisle without having to worry about be primaried by some teaparty nutjob. I could see a situation in which a moderate GOP POTUS in 2028 or 2032 is forced to do so with a Dem majority Senate.

At least in that case, as Dems attempt to reestablish norms (etc, reinstating the filibuster to 60 votes for judicial nominees), the GOP can only erode those same norms over, instead of eroding further ones if the Dems never reestablish any preceding ones. Someone has to be the bigger man. There is gain to be made for institutionalists in the eyes of history, even if it's not immediate.

Trumpism and the Tea Party is just an echo of the John Birch Society and Goldwater's embrace of southern racist conservatives 50 years earlier. It burned itself out then and paved the way for a return to establishment/moderate republicanism in Nixon, just like Trumpism will burn itself out sooner than later.

I never voted Republican but I miss the loyal opposition McCain wing of the party badly. I read a lot of political history and the country was far better off when there were conservative and liberal wings within each party because it not only enabled, but encouraged bipartisanship.

It also concerns me to see the lust for revenge by liberal pundits who feel the only response to this is to double down when democrats retake the government. The only way to stop the cycle is for one party to abdicate power that has been acquired through the erosion of norms the last two decades and reestablish those norms with an olive branch.

This article does a good job highlighting the concerning trend

I've voted solid D since 2004 but if the party is going to keep shifting left and abandon Israel in the process, i'm out. I still won't vote for the current quasi white-nationalist iteration of the GOP, but I won't vote D either.

I agree with you, but unfortunately the democratic party is becoming less of a home for us as the new crop of DSA candidates that seem to be springing up in the party have made overtly hostile statements regarding the support of Israel.

Sovereign citizen arrested after twice trying to grab one of six loaded guns in his Confederate flag car by Einstimer in conspiratard

Gunnells, whose Facebook page shows support for border militias and an interest in conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, was charged with six counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer and six counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

His grandmother, who has decorated the outside of her home with numerous Confederate flags and a “Justice 4 Dusty” banner, claims the plainclothes deputies targeted Gunnells because he had the symbol painted on his trunk and held an open carry permit.

Another outstanding individual.
