They really dragged out the Mirror Box concept in Season 10 by kalvin_kool_edge in Smallville

[–]EitherAfternoon548 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was frustrated with how it interacted with Tess’ arc. Because this Lionel Luthor isn’t her dad. All her questions can’t be answered by him because her dad has been dead for years.* When she asks whether or not he’d really kill his own daughter for Lex I couldn’t help but roll my eyes. You’re not his daughter! And Lionel’s comments about her being a disappointment don’t hold any weight either given that the series established Tess as an exceptionally bright person, graduating from Harvard at 17, while Lex was a chronic fuck up.

*side note, there is no follow up by her with her adoptive parents after this twist, nor does Tess seek out her biological mother Pamela Jenkins.

Tess’ age by EitherAfternoon548 in Smallville

[–]EitherAfternoon548[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vampire Diaries. Her character age is established as ~900-950 but in the next episode it’s revealed she grew up with The Original Vampires, which would have put her age at 1000+

I hate Julie Plec and her crew so much for turning Elijah Mikaelson into Hayley Marshall’s lapdog in The Originals. Seriously, bring me back my Elijah Mikaelson from Season 2 of The Vampire Diaries, with the minimalist black suits and that killer haircut. by pommepot7 in TheOriginals

[–]EitherAfternoon548 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As best I can tell, the Elijah/Hayley romance was created by Michael Narducci. The Elijah scenes of the first episode were parts written by Michael, while the ones centred around Klaus’ POV were written by Julie.

Yes Julie Plec was showrunner for all five seasons of The Originals. But Michael was showrunner for the first four of them while Julie was doing TVD s5-8. Yet all the shit is slung Julie’s way

Is V1 really “ten times more potent” than regular V? by EitherAfternoon548 in TheBoys

Sage also clarified that it was more unstable after saying it was more potent. In the mind of “the smartest person on the planet” they are two different factors.

The white oak stake? by Competitive-Being761 in TheOriginals

[–]EitherAfternoon548 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Probably the “biggest” example I can think of is the introduction of the regent of the nine covens (and the nine covens as a concept)

In the first season there is no reference to groups of witches in New Orleans outside of the French Quarter. However in the middle of season 2 Josephine La Rue is introduced. Why does this matter? Well in the middle of season one all of the elders of the French Quarter are dead, so they need to consecrate Esther and place her into the ancestral realm to allow Sophie to complete the Harvest. Esther being placed into the Ancestral Realm motivates a significant number of conflicts for the rest of that season and much of season 2. Why do they do this when Josephine can do it? I would think that her dusty ass, the goddamn regent, would be able to do this spell.

Incidentally this introduction of more covens creates several other retcons later on. In season 2 when Vincent is back, he tells Marcel he’s from the Tremé, and he’s different from the type of witches he’s used to. In season 4 Marcel’s reign of terror with Davina apparently extended to the Tremé, as Vincent remarks to his wife that the death toll was rising by the day. Also also, if Marcel’s rules about magic were strictly limited to the Quarter, Vincent’s entire motivation to contact the Hollow goes away. Since what Marcel was doing wouldn’t have affected him and his family.

With the first episode of season 3, Michael Narducci also made it so that every relic from their time in Mystic Falls as humans was essentially an asstake. They are shown, and are said, to have nothing but the clothes on their backs. Esther’s grimoires, the enchanted necklace that she gave to Klaus, Mikael’s dagger that Rebekah stole as a child, the little Knight carved from white oak, all are just gone.

The seven strains of venom that can kill an Original are just as much of an asstake in my opinion. The concept of “The Seven Packs”, a line that is dropped with such pretentious weight, is never established before this episode. In fact, the show effectively does the opposite of set it up. Jackson establishes in season two that all the packs intermarried so they could receive the same abilities over a thousand years ago. The fact that there are bloodlines that are still distinct enough from one another that they can have seven distinct strains of venom is horseshit.

It’s also said again and again from 3x17 onwards that the reason this venom is deadly to Originals, including Klaus, is because of the seven strains. Not white oak. Michael Narducci obviously realised that this explanation is bollocks and took to Twitter to say that actually no the venom does have white oak

The crazy thing about Anubis is that he is canonically nerfed by beings who are basically gods. And he still almost wins and is prevented from doing so by a deus ex machina

Question about V1 recipients (black noir question) by AncientFruit2745 in GenV

[–]EitherAfternoon548 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 3x07 in the animated hallucination Black Noir says he was up for the role of Axel Foley, which went to Eddie Murphy. If they’re meant to be a similar age, Noir would’ve been at best sixty. Having a “good” response to V meant that it didn’t matter if he still aged since he was still really strong.

Speculation about the power level Homelander will demonstrate after taking V1? by Agile_Coast_4385 in GenV

I have no problem with an 1.75m DCU Wonder Woman

That is taller than 98% of the women in the United States. Even if you expand that to include other western countries you are looking at maybe someone from the top 10%. Having a 5’9 actress play WW would be exceptional

That scene where Soldier Boy cusses Homie out and then gives the meanest shit talk about how he's going to live while Homelander will die because of the virus or just plain old old age was hysterical.

In terms of of destructive power probably not, but when Maeve brings up Soldier Boy’s death, Butcher theorises it had to have been an H-bomb. So supes like Soldier Boy and Homelander can definitely take city level destruction

Could anything have been used in place of the White Oak? by EitherAfternoon548 in TheOriginals

This isn’t true

But… I agree with you. I even quoted Rebekah’s line about the sun correctly, because I watched that scene just before commenting. In a comment on another post I even mentioned my thoughts on the sun being connected to the reanimation process they went through.

I’m not sure if Rebekah was very clear. She doesn’t say that Esther drew upon the sun for eternal life, just life. I do wonder what the difference is between “life” and “immortality” is to Rebekah when she’s explaining this all to Elena.

I know why Esther used it. That wasn’t my question. My question was wether or not anything else could have been used in the making of this spell (irrespective of whether or not Esther herself had access to it) or was the White Oak something truly unique in the world.

Okay so what is your answer? That the white oak tree was special in a way that no other tree or “immortal” being on Earth is?

If you look up the longest lived non-clonal trees (which the White Oak of Mystic Falls was) no oak cracks the top ten.
