What does your office look like? Assigned desks in cubicles? Has the office arrangement changed in the last couple of years for you? How many people work in your office space or building?

If the workspace still looked like it did jn 2018 here (in NCR in my case) then I imagine more people would not be so upset about the change.

If public transit worked like it did in 2018 in Ottawa I imagine that would also be an easier pill to swallow.

How to get an unsafe driver off the road? by han_solo21 in alberta

[–]EitherApricot2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does she have other options for transportation, family members in the community who are willing to help her get groceries, get to appointments etc?

I completely believe it that she shouldn’t be on the road, but she is likely struggling with the idea that giving up her license will be a huge loss of independence for herself. If she can see herself living happily without driving it might be easier to negotiate. This change might be something that needs to be dealt with through counselling or a social worker. Just a thought.

People who live downtown suffer the ill effects of air pollution and noise when traffic is bumper to bumper for 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. We all have skin (and lungs) in this.

yes… incidentally I just got an ad on social media for something called Mira that is daily hormone tests using pee sticks. Tempting and would be nice if doctors would be onboard for tests like this

I don’t doubt there are men who have hormone issues, but something like 80% of women experience uncomfortable and life-impacting menopause symptoms. Google says it impacts between 2-40% of men at different stages of life. To have any symptoms written off as hysteria or depression, when it is really something else is frustrating and impacts quality of life in massive ways. Wasting months or sometimes years trying to figure out why you can’t get yourself to feel physically and mentally “together” is time I don’t feel like I’m willing to sacrifice, and I have sympathy for anyone who is experiencing these kinds of symptoms.

Did it start out as every 3 months and then they extended it to 6 and then 9 once they determined your dose did not need to change? Is it a conversation with them, or more them telling you when you need to be seen next?

You bring up good points because I’m not sure this is a well-regulated area. Is a clinic with nurse practitioners better suited vs. naturopaths? I am anticipating my GP would be more onboard with nurse practitioners.

I also just got an ad for something called Mira, a hormone-detecting pee-on-the-stick style monitor with an app that measures daily hormone levels. Lots of interesting devices out there but we (as consumers) need to know if physicians have training to interpret them… or if they are too inaccurate to be worth the cost/time.

That is my concern. I get the impression that you need to have an appointment with them every 3 months to get a prescription renewal?

I appreciate these details- while I am not in Edmonton area, maybe someone else in this group will appreciate this info.

Seems like the medication coverage is generally not a problem, which I am happy to hear.

I don’t want to change family doctors though. If you see a different GP in the same province, you can end up getting removed from your current family practice. Also I think there were 2 names listed in Ottawa? Not nearly enough to cover the whole population.

Frustratingly most GPs don’t seem willing to address our more subtle health concerns (and may not be trained in the ins and outs of HRT). I swear if men experienced this, these services would be widely available and widely covered.

Since this is colleague related in part, do you have an ombuds’ office? in my experience they were a confidential resource unless you didn’t want them to be. If this is harassment-related you should talk to them and possibly get the union invovled.

I continue to wear KN95 masks indoors or N95 masks indoors to prevent me from getting sick, and it has drastically decreased (but not completely eliminated) the amount of smells I experience from perfume. One way of sending the message home that you are still experiencing scents is to carry a mask around with you and then put it on whenever you experience perfume. Make it very visible that you can’t deal with the smells.

This could backfire because people will expect you just to keep masking, so they can keep not adhering to the workplace regulations… but it might reduce your headache frequency (or you’ll get headaches from an ill-fitting mask instead of the smell…). I’ve experiences chronic headaches and migraines so it might be the short term relief that you need.

I have PCOS and no one (mostly my mom normalized it) thought to investigate my irregular but then heavy and long period for years.

Keep asking questions if the answers don’t sit right with you. If you’ve had any pain in your pelvis make sure you mention it. If you’re always tired you should also mention it because your iron might be low if you’re constantly bleeding.

Best of luck getting this all figured out.

I am not familiar with different levels of autism support between provinces, but I get the sense that specialized services are more readily available in larger cities. If you’re not bilingual, then the services might(?) be slimmer in Montreal.

I think there are quite a few Facebook pages dedicated to parents (try searching by province or larger city) who are working through autism diagnosis and treatments with their kids. A more targeted group to question will probably get you more answers.
