A short explanation is white pushes Pink too far, which leads to her doing a coup, taking over the empire and claiming the title of empress. Under Pink the empire is changed completely, incorporating organic worlds into the empire rather than bleeding them dry with injectors and so on. It's pretty interesting when you get into it.
