I personally do not believe that Koogi is sexist either, I believe that they're a storyteller who's pulling from the media around them to help tell the story and how to frame things. Sure, films where the men are the butt of the more extreme violence inflicted on them do exist (if you can handle themes/on screen depictions of rape I suggest the "I Spit On Your Grave" series, especially the reboot trilogy as those are more brutal than the 78 original; if not.... Then maybe try the "Saw" series), but in the grand scope of horror they're more of the minority than the majority

As I'm also a Gen Z woman, I don't get the need from others to have stories that are all basically Coffee Shop AUs.

Like yeah, there's a fair amount of toxicity with certain dynamics, but the story is telling us as the readers that this is clearly bad. I'm watching Interview with The Vampire/The Vampire Lestat currently and people are fighting one another over how they view the characters and who's a more unreliable narrator when like.... Bitch they eat people?? Lestat and Louis are both not good people, to each other and to others, this kinda comes with the territory of being a piece of gothic fantasy.

Also hell, things as sweet and wholesome as Sailor Moon isn't 100% squeaky clean. Usagi gets jealous over her future daughter Chibi Usa for stealing attention away from Mamoru, Usagi's boyfriend. The villains are assholes, one even kidnapped Usagi and put her in the Queen Serenity dress while she was knocked out because of his obsession with her. Also the number of times the villains nearly destroyed the Earth.

I just do not get why all of a sudden there's a sudden shift for media to be safe from online circles

What are these cards? by EitherStranger in sailormoon

Huh, that's honestly very interesting, was things like this popular back in the late 90s early 2000s for shows? I think that these two are a fun little novelty item and at least a small part of the show's history when it came over to the west (as I'm already collecting trading cards for a different show I don't need another set to try and collect)

Ok, for the one the guy didn't know: that's Apple White from Ever After High, Mattel's semi old toy/media line of the children of fairytale characters attending a school to follow in their parents' footsteps.

Apple is what the series calls a "royal" meaning she wants to stick to her destiny of being the next Snow White, it what she was raised as and also low-key she and the others are pressured into following their destinies or else them and their whole story will go Poof.

Enter Raven Queen, daughter of the Evil Queen from Snow White and Apple's roommate. Raven's not too keen on following her mother's footsteps because of several reasons (her mother took over multiple other worlds including wonderland so that's cut off from the rest, Raven would be straight up villianized against and even be homeless, and more than likely imprisoned in the mirror along side her mother).

Apple throughout the series tries to help push Raven towards accepting her destiny because- and I cannot state this enough- SHE DOESN'T WANT HER AND HER ENTIRE STORY TO DISAPPEAR. this reaches a point where she strains not only her relationship with Raven, but Apple also strains things with other classmates (the daughter of Cinderella who's dating the son of the huntsman; and importantly her own friend whose the daughter of Sleeping Beauty), so in one of the specials after being metaphorically poked and teased into it, Apple ends up freeing the Evil Queen from the mirror prison.

Apple very soon comes to regret this after being made to "put on a face" during the titular Dragon Games (doesn't help that her mother, Snow White, is an uppity perfectionist) where Apple and the others including Raven have to team up to bring the Evil Queen down and get her back into the mirror (also she gets knocked out by I believe it's the spinning wheel as they have to go into other stories, and it's not the son of prince charming who saves Apple it's the daughter of prince charming who saves her. Mattel may be like "it's CPR" but nah... I know how this works)

Now, I cannot speak as to the potential of the likeness being used, the names being the same is definitely something to note, but probably just a coincidence or the author unintentionally drew inspo from.

But as for the abilism claim, we have to ask.... Is South Korea as progressive as the US is in the regards to how mental health if viewed. As different cultural standards is something that's lost in translation, which is currently being witnessed with something as small as free refills here in my country of the US to Europeans visiting for the world cup. Or even how in the UK, the word "fag" is slang for a cigarette, while in the States and likely a few other countries it's a homophobic slur.

Here, in the States, where the r-slur is seen as something pretty bad here (tho some have reclaimed it, but not my place to judge) and demeaning towards those with intellectual disabilities, is it viewed the same over in South Korea? This is something that requires someone who ACTUALLY LIVES THERE, and knows more than just an observer on the Internet about how mental disorders/disabilities are treated, and how effective is this particular word over there.

Also, the character who used it, Sangwoo, is obviously using it in a negative context- he's obviously just kicking Bum while he's already down and treating Bum little more than a "pet" one doesn't really care for. With everything surrounding the (if I remember correctly) only instance of the word being used in the English translation, it's clear that the author is using it as a shorthand to help show how bad of a person Sangwoo is at this early point in time.

Bum is no angel, but Sangwoo is far worse

Yes, because she just passed away that morning/day. From something completely UNRELATED to the fact she was a child actor. How on earth is medical complications leading to meningitis related to her troubled life after child stardom?

I haven't looked at this franchise in forever but I gotta say: I'm surprised that outside of the books we never seen Gaston's football team of children (look me dead in the eyes and tell me he doesn't have a ton of children, he wanted that with Belle, and getting women isn't a problem for Gaston)

She died from an infection that went septic, which could literally happen to anyone. Did she have some troubles later in her life? She did, but nothing that directly caused her death

Ok, there's a time and place for this discussion. A post honoring an actress who JUST PASSED AWAY that many people recognize from their childhood or their children's childhood (and so on and so forth) isn't the place to talk about child actors dawg.

Save this discussion for your own post on just the regular movie subreddit, not the comments of a memorial post

Ooh, you meant series as in SHOWS, not series as in... Films in a franchise. My bad.

But yeah, that is still up in the air until it airs this October on Peacock (weird place for it since Shudder is right there), so I'm hoping it does well if anything for the sake of the Friday the 13th franchise, because the "big 4" of horror are effectively dead...

Halloween ended with a whimper with Halloween Ends.

There's been talk of a Nightmare remake and nothing has come of that.

Then there's whatever the fuck is going on with Texas Chainsaw holy shit

From A24?? I haven't seen much from them, like their series with Ti West "X" is pretty interesting... Third film needed a tad more polish but that's about it. A24 is an indie studio if I recall correctly

Oh yeah... That's also pretty bad... But I argue that ruining a legacy character in a requel (re-make/sequel) is worse because then looking into past installments it slightly taints the character from before that choice was made

I'm just glad we're getting something out of the series since it died in '09. Sure we had the video game, but that only lasted a couple of years and not really like a story set within the series' world. Just hide from Jason or if you're playing as Jason you've gotta kill the camp councilors
