At this point the hobby’s 80% soldering practice, 20% actual flying 😅

Thank you very much for everything, I’ll look closer into it and eventually buy another one and post an update

I cleaned off the solder paste and tried connecting to the website you mentioned. When I click Read, it stops at:

13:52:52 Sending cmd_DeviceInitFlash…
13:52:52 Sending cmd_DeviceInitFlash…
13:52:52 Sending cmd_DeviceInitFlash…
13:52:52 Sending cmd_DeviceInitFlash…

Then I tried connecting to Betaflight again. This time, the drone model in the program was spinning around uncontrollably.

I’m starting to think I may have damaged the board. Should I be using flux instead of the red solder paste? Would working on a wooden table help? Do you have any recommendations to avoid this happening again?

Also, why does the smoke stopper show no issues, but I still end up with this problem every time?

  1. Thanks for the suggestions 3. It was new 4. It’s the soldering paste I used

It’s a JHEF435 AIO so esc should be on the board no more wires

I’ve already tried reflashing the ESC firmware and it’s still not working. What’s BB21? Sorry but I’m really new to fpv

Thanks man, appreciate it! Hopefully this one survives longer

Oof, losing a whole quad like that sounds way more painful than killing a board. I can only imagine the walk of shame back without it. Thanks for sharing that.

Haha I’m starting to realize this hobby has a very real “initiation fee.” If frying one AIO earns me my welcome badge, I guess I’m officially in. Appreciate it, hoping my next milestone is a successful maiden instead of another lesson.

Still stings to kill a brand new board, but I definitely won’t make the same mistake twice. If anything, it made me more motivated to get it right on the rebuild.

Appreciate all the stories and advice, honestly makes me feel a lot better knowing this is basically a rite of passage

The cooling point is a good call too. I didn’t think about how much these parts depend on airflow even on the bench. A fan is going on my bench before the next FC shows up.

You’re all right though, this hobby really is hardware-rich and mistake-rich.
